I turn 40 next month and I've always wanted to sing but I fu*#@n' suck. Don't know if my skull is the wrong shape, bad vocal chords, etc. but no matter how hard I try (and I try a lot) I'm horrible. So...... I was thinking about getting some tutorial videos for vocal training. Has anybody done this? I don't care about being great, I just want to be able to get my ideas across without feeling humiliated. I write a lot of songs and a lot of lyrics but can't sing them to save my life and it's frustrating as all hell. Am I too old at 40? Thoughts? I bought a program about 6 years ago called Vocal Release, it's a series of exercises to learn all of the different techniques, including singing "through the mask" it's worth the money if you practice daily.

I just can't fathom living there. So noisy and crowded. Nashville is plenty big enough but its far more affordable to live here. I sincerely hope people from LA don't ruin it... seems like they're trying. I was in Nashville last Christmas and was told 25,000 people are moving in to the city each year - that's nuts. A lot of Los Angeles musicians are finding new homes in Austin and aren't looking back.

Boston is getting up there too. If you don't make $150,000 a year you have to live in one of the outlying slum towns.

I'll be sure from this point forward to let people know MY honest opinions as well. I usually just move along if I don't like something.

I've said this this same thing over an over its what wrong with a lot of recording today we edit and polish the soul out of it It's more than likely the Producers, Draiman can sing. As far as all the strings, The Moody Blues were doing that many moons ago.

Maybe it's overproduced but I don't care, still sounds awesome! Exactly why I don't like a lot of modern mixes. Too precise everything sits to nice to be true, nothing left from the arranging rough mix intersession. I call it over polished.... I don't let all that bother me any more, it's the times.

That band of snow south of Atlantic City looks a little suspect. Anyone that looks at the MAP might notice it

I just broke out the snowblower for the first time. I'm guessing about 7" total. Baby storm here, thankfully. We got 10" and 5 miles to the south in Falmouth got 15.3"

I don't think The Sound of Silence could be covered any better. Draiman is a beast on vocals.

I'm gonna say the best method is to get a piano tech to look at it. Then I'll venture the second best method is to actually try to tune it - be sure to move every peg. But then, and especially if you're bringing the pitch up or down significantly, you're not going to know how well it holds until you tune it a couple times. No doubt, there are some that you would be able to tell instantly, and you'd definitely want to stay away from those. If you tune it, or even just tune unisons say at all the C's and F#s, come back the next day and if nothing has slipped more than a few cents, that's a good sign, right? It's not mine so there's no way I'll be putting serious time into it, I'll have her hire a pro to assess it.

Beware that many old pianos can't be tuned which is why they are cheap or free. How can you tell?

A friend of mine got a free used Upright Piano that could use a tuning, is it a schooled skill to be able to get it perfect? There's two strings per key on the low keys and three per key on the mid to high keys. I would think as long as you know the fundamentals of how to tune it, it would just take quite a bit of time. Another question is do any of you tune in Thirds and Fifths of just Octaves?

No idea what we're getting, I'm in Bourne near the west end of the canal. I'm hearing 3-6, 7-12, nothing consistent.

So I do have a Roland RD-150 piano, does anyone know if I can use that as a midi controller for a software based synth? Seems like I have two directions: 1. Midi controller, software on laptop 2. Keyboard based workstation I'd simply prefer #2 for ease of use, but if cost dictates, I could go either way. Yes, I use one of these with my Korg synth. And it works with Windows 10 www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/UMOneMk2

My old friend Kenny Aaronson might very well have played with more top artists than any bass player known to man. He's a great guy. His style wasn't exactly what I thought would fit my music, but I gotta say that when he was with Bob Dylan, he was in a league of his own. I saw him with Foghat, pretty solid
