Well, I lost a loved one near and dear to me. My solid state systems main drive died last night. Anyone here using solid states drives? Just studying up on what to get to replace it and wanted to hear from others what they feel is,the better buys.

So - you're replacing the older solid state drive with a new SSD? Or are you going from 7200 to SSD?

I am using a Samsung 840 Pro 512GB in my Mac Mini for a second drive with no issues. The system drive is Apple's 256GB SSD. Works perfectly.

I've been using an old 120 gig SSD for a few years now and it's getting a bit long in the tooth. The newer drives keep getting better (faster and more reliable), so I would spend the extra to get a current generation. I'm basically there myself, so let me know where you land on this. I'll make you my test case.

Last research I did a few months back was that the Samsung pros were the top SSD drive out. Not sure how the warranties are.
I run a OWC as my system drive... been running the same speed for the past 3 years.

I have the Samsung 840 too...my external is a USB 3 4gb drive...One day I'm gonna make my second drive another SSD. I beat it screams. Switching to SSD was BY FAR the biggest improvement in power I've ever noticed.

I have a 90gig SSD in my Mac Pro, I'm going to upgrade for prevention/reliability reasons. I went with the smaller 90 gig drive for the OS and pro tools for efficiency sake, it now seems a little small, any size suggestions?
btw, like JK, big speed and performance improvement seen here

I may be imagining it, but I don't think so.
