I paid for my 2 bodies 15 months ago. From the number he said he was picking up, I was wondering if there would be enough to fill the first paid orders let alone the waiting list. I'd look at other options.
Did you get yours? Mine look great! What tube and transformer are you thinking? I'm going AC701 and probably the big AMI, I want to do these once and be done with them! At first look I too thought not bad. But after I started working with the bodies for an hour, I started seeing problems. One mic was taller than the other. I asked for a matched pair. The headbasket hoop leans back, and is bent in on the sides, and you can see soldier joints from the outside, and mesh isn't straight. Out of the 3 screws the hold that hold the headbasket to the base, only 2 line up, trying all variations, so at least one hole will have to be enlarged. One hole that holds the P.S.Bs to the base isn't very deep and the holes that hold the binder to the base are a different size or just chrome plated inside. I guess this is D.I.Y. I have two real M-49s so I kinda cheeped out on these. I'm using the 5840, T-49, but ordering the Thiersh Bluelines. I have the power supplies and binder cords built, just waiting for the capsules. What capsule are you using? What did you pay for the 701? Your tube and transformer are top of the line.

If you get one finished, let us know how it compares with the real deal. I'd like to get the AMI body. Haven't decided on tube or transformer, but I will probably pony up for a genuine K49 capsule (more historically accurate than an PVC M7 anyway)

OK finally took the time and decided to put some money into these. First by now I should know enough to follow my own advise, but this advice comes from me making simple mistakes. Order some extra hardware, odds are you will either lose something or like me break a plastic insulated turret so order extras ! Shipping for a couple of turrets is as much as it is for 2 mics worth of hardware !
Keep looking at the pictures! Danny has Holes as well as the turrets some of the components need to be attached to. Even with the schematic in front of you, without the pictures you will find yourself connecting and trimming a resistor to the hole instead of the insulated turret, how do I know? Well that's what I did! More to come.

Mouser PSU parts order should arrive today ! One lesson I forgot to share, You need to ream the holes for the turrets a bit not much but they do go in much easier if you do! Can't emphasize enough keep a picture as well as the schematic in front of you at all times! Before you order your parts, remember the BOM is for both B&C versions so you can save a few bucks, but be careful, PSU BOM includes a case and XLR 7 pin connector so if you order Dan 's awesome Binder PSU case and opt for the binder as well you can do some editing as well! Oh Binder currently is out of one of the 7pin cable connectors!

You guys talked me out of doing a M49 in favor of the U47.. But I'm loving my U47 so much that I'm thinking of getting rid of the C12 and doing a M49 now.. Uggh. As if I needed to spend more money.

I have been a M49 fan since the Musichead / Soundsumitt days! Damn you Dan and Rick ! Something about the body the 49 turns out, Love the 47, but a pair of really nice 49's with m7s that's my holy grail!

I have a pair of the MK47's and love them. They rule on overheads. I think I have a bunch of the parts here for a 49. I have the transformer and a capsule I think already. I just have to find them. I'm sure the capsule could use some love from Sinsay. But I will get it going first and then send it to him. I already have a huge list of things to get through on my DIY list. Ugh

This project has become a real fail for me. I'm stoked someone has done the bodies after years of waiting but they are over $800 aud and the entire kit is now over 2000aud before I pick up a solder iron.
Think I'll just shelve what I've bought so far and build a u87.

My Blackspade UM17 is a dead ringer for an M49. It's designed by Oliver Archut from TabFunkenwerk/AMI.
I've listened to a few records where the lead vocal was a M49, and it was almost indistinguishable from my UM17, although I haven't had them both in the same room. Just sayin', in case anyone wanted to save some time and wanted something quickly.
Good luck with the build.

AMI offers a M49 kit for like 1K$. Why would anyone spend 800$ on a body alone?

yeah I'm kicking myself now. I had an option at a um17 for $700 a while back and decided not to. Too bad, it's good right out of the box, and can be easily modded later on. I put the Thiersch M7 capsule in mine, ( or I should say Sinsay did ;-). I might take a step or two more when I get to Nashville. I'll ask Sinsay if he thinks it can be dialed in a little closer to my taste. It's quite preamp sensitive, so be sure to get a good match if you do ever try the UM17.

I've used the Dizengoff D4, and the low level detail is fantastic. That said, the UM17 is inherently a little bright, as is the D4, so although it really sounds good, it might not be the ultimate match.
I've also used the Warm Audio Tone Beast, with a John Hardy opamp, and found that a little grainy. I think a 1073 might be an even better match, though I haven't had a chance to try one yet

Just to be clear, I would highly recommend the D4 to anyone. I did a test of my mic straight through a restored vintage Neve console. There was a certain solidity I can't quite describe. The D4 has it too. It just sounds pro, not like a good compromise.
