"Grasshopper" here wants U47's/44's/etc.
But must first learn "Wax on, Wax off", with what he has. (Wise Fortune Cookie say!) Chris

I’ve got too many guitars, [...] WHATTTTT??!!?!?!? Impossible! Are you bananas?? Too many guitars?!?! How could you, Jeremy, how could you? I trusted you, man. Alright, alright. I guess if I really pushed it I could responsibly use more guitars -50’s les Paul jr -Gibson Banner LG2 -Gibson LG00 -Jackson Pedal Steel -jazz bass with a P neck -12 fret Martin D-28 (good lord has anybody played one of these? I about died the last time I laid hands on one they are soooo good) -Gibson Roy Smeck radio garande conversion (same sentiment as above) -Gibson HG-OO conversion -Gibson Nick Lucas

I’ve thought about this. There was a time I had everything I needed to write and produce. It was a simple system in that I had one, maybe two of everything, nothing extra. But mainly I had serious mics. Sold my studio decades ago. Last year I was close to having a complete system with some good hardware, but needed to sell, so I started over this year with just an Apollo and Stam SA73. I have a checklist of the gear I’d want at different budgets. 50 G’s, 25 G’s, 15, 10.
But I’ll say this, I will never try to compete with a working studio. I would have my own space and my own maximized minimalist gear list, and find my own style of production, leaving the higher end studios to do their thing.
Right now, all I need is one seriously great mic, and I can make an album with that alone and my Apollo. It’s not easy to find though, unless you can pop for $4,000 -$15,000.

IMHO Chandler TG/used U89/Heiserman H47 FET/Mark's TF08 are some "greats", under 2K. Chris

Unless you're running a top of the line studio, there's no such thing as a saturation point, right? I mean, don't clients want the latest and greatest? So the true saturation point for the other 99.9% is one that considers the calculus of value and cashflow/budget. Of course it's less frustrating for those of us who have personal project studios and don't rely on them for income. I'd be curious to know what the ratio of pro to amateur participants on these forums is. I'd wager that it's not very big if you include lurkers. I'm noticing there are a number of people here (who do not run pro studios) who are quite close to being happy with a modest rig. A good mic and pre-amp are all they feel they need. My modest studio is very close to saturation because in addition to a decent vocal mic, I have a baby grand piano and (finally) good mics and pre-amps to pair with it. Also, I've made the decision to stay ITB all the way - AND make due and be happy with plugins I have.
I was surprised to see the number of folks who want a piano in their studios - what with the quality of the digital offerings out there. If I didn't have the ability to tune mine EVERY time I use it, I would be using pianos of the digital variety. Be careful what you wish for. I'd take a good digital piano over a slightly out of tune piano every day.

I'd take a good digital piano over a slightly out of tune piano every day. If you’re doing overdubs or writing / doing demos, that’s all well and good. I just long to have a room where I can mic everybody up in the same room at the same time. There is nothing quite like all that beautiful bleed. I think we’ve had the discussion about playing inspiring instruments and getting inspiring takes, nothing really works as well as sitting down at a beautiful instrument imo

The better story is how I got it: My late father bought it in 1957 when he was in the Navy on an aircraft carrier, the USS Lake Champlain. They were headed into port in a couple days, and the guy who owned the guitar wanted some spending money. My father had some, and he bought the guitar from him. And I have it now.
