I think I'm just about there . . . . at the point where I can no longer justify further expenditures because I have just about everything in the studio that anyone could ever need.
Except for the full-size grand piano and the LFAC.
Anyone else?
Are there still a significant number of items on your must-have list or are you at the point of 'saturation' as well?

I've written about being at the point of "need" instead of "want" before. I now only buy something I "need" for a session, or can justify using in the future, unless it's just cheap enough that it won't matter.
I suppose it's a similar thing after rotating through tons of gear over the decades chasing tone instead of learning the gear I had better.. Until the Great Purge of 2006 when I made a list of the gear I use regularly, and a list of gear that I don't.. And sold all the gear I couldn't justify using regularly, mostly for room and simplicity rather than money.
So yeah, I suppose I'm at the saturation point where I don't find myself lusting after much of anything in audio besides figuring out how to make myself better, which leads me to say that I've subscribed to a few educational programs where the pros teach you their "tricks" and even though the tricks are mostly just evolutions on things you already know, it's incredibly helpful to see the small differences that make large changes in results.

I take part of that back.. The one thing I do lust after now is a larger space. I'd love a large live room about 4x what I have now in area and height.

I've tried to take this year off from acquiring gear to REALLY learn what I have. It's been harder than it should.
I think I'll always be adding things to the list because there will always be new and interesting pieces being developed, but the biggest change I have noticed is our studio moving to a larger live room space.
We went from 8 foot ceilings to 20 foot ceilings and the drums immediately felt like they opened up, in clarity and liveliness. It was a stark reminder about a lesson I thought I had already learned, that the song is the most important, and then the player and then the room (and then the mics to capture the room, I should probably get some new mics...)

Heretic! But seriously, every time you get there, there’s something else. It’s also not always the latest and greatest, somebody shows you something and dang I want one!

Wait, what's a Saturation Point? Who makes it? When can I pre-order?

I find myself enjoying the systems integration part of gear acquisition, the planning, buying, and integrating. While making and capturing music is my principle goal, sometimes that desire to MAKE THE SYSTEM BIGGER AND BETTER is a strong unconscious driver of questionable gear acquisitions for me

yes, and or very very close as now I look at the costs of a new item and I ask my self how much will it actually improve sonicaly what I do vs learning to use what I have better and I can't really justify the cost.
But, I have my 50% offer from Stam, so I look at his offerings carefully as that represents very good value.

I just got there too, have everything I need except for a grand piano, which will only happen in the next house. So, sure enough, now we're house shopping, gah.

Except for the full-size grand piano and the LFAC. Anyone else? I'm about there unless I get stupid and decide to build a purpose built studio. LOL I'm at the piano thing too though. A piano and a B3 and that would pretty much do it. I waffled around and missed a nice C7 with a disclavier system built in for $25k. Still kicking myself.... On the B front, I've already got the leslie's, and I'm 85% there sound wise. Haven't convinced myself that it's worth the maintenance, the space, etc.. But I still dream.... That would pretty much do it though. But I don't kid myself. I know I'll continue to buy mics, guitars, outboard gear and whatnot - just because it's there, because I need some write-offs, and because it's pretty,,,, Oh well.... LOL

PS - there definitely IS an inspirational factor in all of this. So if it inspires, then it's a definite possibility.....

each year I go through phases of what I feel I "need" in order to increase the sonic quality of the art I produce. 2017 was the need for a real keeper of a mandolin. I got a Gibson F5 Fern. Last year it was Yamaha U3 piano (incredible!) and Dynaudio LYD48 speakers. I'm trying to keep this year to releasing a couple CDs (~$3k) and some software updates... plus that Gretsch guitar I needed. There isn't anything I 'must" have at this point, but I do spend an awful lot of time window shopping for things I really can't afford. Some guys spend a fortune on their car or their house. I'd probably live in a cardboard box if it had good acoustics. My wife would not agree. :-)

I need my own space at this point, and I’m trying to figure out if it’s going to be in the house my wife and I buy in the next few years, or in a 3 car garage on the property, or at a separate location altogether.
I was a framer and carpenter in a former life so I could build something relatively on the cheap.
Other than that, I’ve got too many guitars, I’ve got the Rhodes, drum kits, B3, basses, etc etc instrument wise. I would LOVE a piano...
So, The dream list is
-my own room -new computer / HDX rig -piano -vintage Gibson Hummingbird
And then I’m all set!

I’m smart enough to realize that even though I would REALLY like an atr102, it’s just not gonna happen. That money would go to retirement fund. Same goes with an analog console at this point. Unless something drastic changes and I could pick up an AWS on the cheap, it’s just not going to happen.

I'm not even close to my saturation point in my desire to have better gear and better rooms, but reached my saturation point financially. I just couldn't see the reward of spending $100,000.0 +++ into a poor business model vs better investments. So, I'm gonna use what I have for demo's and then, since really good studios time so inexpensive, go into one when it's time for the real deal. A much better use of money imo.

Hey Jeremy - "Vintage Gibson Hummingbird" I had one of those about 20 x years ago. It had one of the best necks i have played on. The sound was pretty mellow and clear. Not bright enough for me at the time so i sold it. But wow it really had an awesome feel. But i also passed up on a 1964 Gibson J200. One of my few regrets in life. That maple had aged so well it was so sweet. I never realised that maple could sound sweet. I always felt maple sounded so bright but this thing had aged so well. Too bad but occasionaly it still pops up in my dreams. Dam you !
