So my 808 has a major clog that has not cleared even with turning the heat to 5 and letting it sit for a while. The cleaning rod did not push it out either.
Anyone got any tricks beside replacing the tip and or inner tube?
Thanks.

I had the same problem with a couple of tips. Tried the same method with no luck. I thought of drilling the tip out, or taking a torch to it, but I just bought new ones.

Yeah... I was thinking of drilling it out but it would open up the tip to much. Maybe I will try the torch.

My JBC at work came with drill bits to clear clogged tips.

Every time I try to fix one, I make it worse. I just keep a few new ones around.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. I eventually got it all a part and found that I had completely clogged almost the whole transfer tube and the backside of the tip. It had also caused the tip to solder onto the transfer tube, very strange. Ended up drilling out the transfer tube and the back of the tip. Works great now.
So... if you are doing rework in a vintage amp make sure you clean out the tip and transfer tube often. The old flux is nasty.

As a heads-up, I've found a place called Howard Electronics that sells a very nice range of soldering/desoldering equipment and supplies.
