Ya VBC has no latency and it rocks. I had not had "fun" with a plugin compressor until I picked it up. Waves SSL is solid, but VBC has a different vibe going on. It feels and sounds less constricted - in a good way - to me.

I really like them too...Just threw the MU on a Drum Bus and it was great. Wish they would come out with mono versions...
I still think the UAD compressors are really, really hard to beat. I love the Fatso on the Drum Bus and the 1176 and LA2A collections are better than any of the other version out there IMO...

VST is the oldest and most mature native plug in format. There is no such thing as "only stereo" VSTs....so, yes--it's Cubase. Where VTM was never buggy like RTAS was....from day one.
I know I get shit and rolled eyes sometimes when I say I use Cubase. But, I could give a fuck what I use--as long as it works. When I tested...in some really key areas, it simply works better. Not marginally in a lot of cases...sometimes wholly better than other native solutions. Not because they're some awesome developer--but, because it's the oldest, most mature native solution. Meaning, they took Nuendo up against TDM hardware--implementing all the compensations necessary for a Native system to compete with hardware--and they failed for a number of years. The others? Are at that point now, IME. They're implementing things necessary--they're failing to work well...they will eventually get it...probably...I know years ago, I gave up on Steinberg--saying they were all talk, low on implementation...they kept their eye on that ball, apparently, and produced the most mature platform around now that EVERYONE is native.
That all said...I'm just not that interested in Slate's compressors. Because it's simply not a problem that needs to be solved, IME. Are they good? Maybe. Plenty of good compressors. Unless you have a particular fetish for a Red3 or SSL buss comp...they become just another (potentially) decent choice. I've been meaning to demo them...but, honestly--that's the problem...I've not had any situation where something I already own didn't do fine.
