Anyone have experience with this one? From what I’ve read it all sounds good. With the Tonelux version of the C-37a and this I’m leaning more towards the Manley. It’s also available and the Tonelux, well who knows. Been talked about for a long while.

Add 1 more to your dilemma: Josephson C-715.

Don't know anything about the Tonelux. Don't know who makes the capsule.
The Manley Silver & the Josephson C-715 have the same capsule designed by David himself & based (inspired?) on the Sony. One is FET & the other tube BUT don't let that mean anything until you try them both out.

Hi Kasroc. FWIW I'm a friend of Alan Hyatt's (owner of Tonelux) and will leave him a message regarding this thread
IIRC he intended to start shipping the JC37 tube microphone, sometime in May. I've sung/tried all three of these microphones at NAMM, and they're all terrific. If budget is a concern at all though, the Tonelux will cost le$$ new, versus the other three.
At one point, it looked like Tonelux was also going to release a FET JC37 version-which I tried at NAMM 2018. I'm curious if they might eventually do that one too. Sounded like a cross between the U87i and C37 tube IMHO. Chris

Really digging the Manley Silver. It’s VERY different from the C-715. FWIW, David Josephson shared in a post that the C-715 capsule and Manley Silver cap share the same parts, but that they aren’t identical in the way they make it. Since Manley and Josephson have different philosophies about how each should sound.

I know David designed both capsules, but Manley designed the rest. Down to the custom transformer. I also thought the C-715 wasn’t tube?

One more thing... Any of these three microphones handle sibilance very well. All included on my A List-for Sure! Chris

To further explain, he made mention that the sound is different because he makes the capsule one way, for the C-715 and Manley's capsule another way. Yes, the amplifiers are completely different. The C-715 is solid state with a large core lundahl output transformer. It needs a whack-load of gain.

It’s somewhat neutral for a tube mic but it has a nice subtle thickness and glow. We’ve been getting great tracks with it here. It has a very open and shimmery vibe. It’s clean up top, but never harsh. Is somewhat softer sounding on top but still manages to have detail. Great for vocals and acoustic guitar so far.

I love it! So far just vocals, but it’s incredibly smooth. Rolls off the high end very naturally, but at the same time is extremely detailed and clear. If that makes any sense. Lol. Can’t wait to try it on other sources. It’s right up my alley.

Yep, I love that C37-ish kind of sound! Feel free to post any audio clips, of the new baby. Chris

Has anyone compared the Manley to the Josephson c715? It would also be great to hear updates of the Manley experiences posted previously.

For anyone following with a lesser budget, within Josephson...
They have the 705C FET now. Supposedly pretty "clean" sounding. A 705C vs. JC 37 shootout, would be cool. Both around $2500 or so.
Sorry, haven't retried the Silver yet. Wasn't on the Josephson's long enough, other than being able to tell they're beautiful sounding too.

Chris That's the whole point of the Joesphsons and Manleys innit? Clean but still character mics? Like, you have the 47 67 and c12 and their descendant as three camps of semi-clean kinda wooly and soft sounding microphones and then you have harsh or strident mics like the U87 C414 RE20/27/SM7 lineages and then you have the clean and clear yet character mics. The Redd is probably the greatest of all these. JMHO
