...unless I'm mistaken, I believe Dany Bouchard (Poctop), also from the Group DIY forums designed the blue PCBs (U47 and C12) for Mic and Mods... Link to Dany's own post (my apologies to the moderators if the link is restricted): www.gearslutz.com/board/9839521-post172.htmlWow. . . ok. I'm going to go dark for a little while and have some serious discussions directly with Dany because up until now, we had been collaborators. If indeed he did pen these designs for Mic and Mod, it violates all manner of propriety and he knows better. . . And. . . I will stop typing now because I should not speak publicly when angry.

From the very beginning this company was obviously a blatant rip-off of various GroupDiY projects. I saw Dany's post on GS about doing the designs for MicandMod, and it started to make sense.

I feel that I need to apologise for buying a C12 kit from Micandmod, which I did several weeks before this thread was begun. I feel "deceived". As a relative newbie to DIY, I am much more a full kit-builder, rather than designer/parts-gatherer, etc. Their offering of a complete package looked perfect for my needs. Had I known these shenanigans were going on, I would not have made the purchase.

Ok, here's the latest, this Yannick dude has been purely defiant, when being directly confronted on his ripping off, without the courteously of a single change, the expensive, time consuming, and hard realized products of Matador/Chunger, Collective Cases (danderlou), and Ioaudio MKu47(max), Groupdiy is shutting down his white market thread, and I hope no one here will patronize such an unethical dude. These designers are constantly developing new products for us to buy at absurdly low prices, some new stuff on the way as this is written, they profit very little from their efforts, it truly is a labor of love and passion for these guys, this kind of behavior from this Yannick guy could discourage the REAL contributors, from even bothering anymore, and that sucks for all of us, they deserve our support for their efforts! A guy like Yannick contributes absolutely nothing but slippery snake oil toward the development and acquisition of our unobtanium dream gear!
please do not patronize Mic & Mod, and spread the word in defense of our brothers

As for Matador and Ioaudio who obviously did not agree to work with Mic and Mod, they simply made almost identical versions of the designs without consent. the real shame of it all is that the dual 6028 was kind of a cool idea and a great example of the forward thinking that every so often arises on that board.

Agreed, and when guys like this have their ideas taken from them, they are not likely to contribute to GroupDIY or any forum or community again. That would be incredibly sad. It is the same thing as people stealing music. If the artist can't make a meager living off of their work and ideas, then they will do something different. It is sad all around.

Can't they just send a cease and desist?

Can't they just send a cease and desist? As a patent holder, I can tell you it's extraordinarily expensive to acquire one, let alone enforce it! just to serve up a cease and desist is an attorney laden financial nightmare, now double those costs because it's international! It's pretty much a joke! its still DIY pro audio, based in a pretty tight knit community, the only thing we can do is appeal to decent folks sense of justice, and send this guy packing

We have had some action on this matter recently. . . I have not had anywhere near good direct communications with the primary parties involved. But, you really can't control what other people choose to do. On the proactive side, some ethically upstanding members of the GroupDIY community are now collaborating more closely to advocate and market the original mk47 design as manufactured by ioaudio and we hope to make it far and away a higher quality, more comprehensive kit than copycat designs. This should as a side-effect strengthen efforts of cross collaboration inside the community and reinforce the vibrant exchange of information required for generating innovative new designs as well as provide better access to this particular U47 clone to everyone planet-wide

I know these guys from groupdiy and know how hard it is for them to invest up front and make the kits for these projects. It's amazing how much work goes into them. I remember 8-10 years ago projects like this would take a year or more simply because of the tedious work of sourcing the parts and ironing out the bugs. The micandmod guys obviously have financial resources and they have taken the short cut of making common groupDIY projects their own, for profit. I know chunger, max and the groupDIY guys are not loaded and it's a big gamble and up front investment for them to make these projects available in quantity. I know there's not a lot of profit at the prices they sell these parts for. I also know that if you happen to give it a go and run into trouble these guys will take time to help you get the stuff working just because they are that cool.
I know TonyCamp already set the record straight in the first post, but just in case any of you assume that because these designs are public domain it should be a free-for-all, think again. These guys have put up huge investments up-front to make these projects available with very little profit to be made. Please don't support the micandmod site out of respect for the work that these generous guys have done, otherwise these awesome projects will stop.

I have not yet seen any evidence of reprimand towards Micandmod on the groupdiy website. Rather, it seems, some people are applauding their "offerings". Why won't the moderators erase the M&M threads?

As of early this morning, M&M's White Market Thread was still up on Groupdiy Marketplace. I just went there now to get you the link, and it appears to have been removed. So that's good.

Honestly, I always thought it was kind of funny that NO ONE replied to the Mic and Mod C12 build thread haha This brings a smile to my heart, I'm proud to be associated with the vast majority of guys at Groupdiy and RGO! Smart, thoughtful, creative and just people tend to find each other in these places, designer and builder, pro engineer/musicians and serious enthusiasts alike.

I just signed on at GDIY and blasted that prick, why hasn't anyone else chimed in? Hope I don't get in trouble, but if we don't speak up, the good guys lose!? What ever, I'm not gonna stand by and watch!

...I have it on good authority that Dany has regained open communication with Chung and others, in a sincere attempt to resolve the issues of his involvement with MicandMod...hopefully this can all be worked out to a peaceful and equitable resolution, since all parties, other than MicandMod of course, are valuable assets to the DIY community...

Cool news vibes, I think posting publicly adds due pressure, if I here from any of the guys being taken advantage of here, asking me to back off, I will, if not, it's full steam ahead for me.

...I agree that any effort to cleanse the Group DIY forums of MicandMod's presence are in the good interests of the community...my comment was directed at hopes that the DIY contributors directly affected by this situation can resolve and restore any outstanding issues that remain once MicandMod is purged from the community...
