Sometimes I watch that guys videos but in general, he really annoys me. He tries to present himself as the god of analog and clearly has biases. He can be entertaining sometimes but I can't say I pay much attention to him anymore. How many audio geniuses do we need on YouTube?
For something similar to true Iron, I use the Softube Harmonic plugin. Still, I rarely use it but it's there when I need something like that. So many good plugins add that slight harmonic richness and also do some very good compression (Fuse Audio). I tend to use those more.

Did anybody else notice that it says "SNAKE OIL" right on the video? HA! Exactly. Imagine trying to objectively evaluate a piece of software when the review starts with BullshitThe following piece of kit is absolute bullshit and you'd clearly be simple-minded if you liked it. I mean these plugin programmers and companies outright lie. True iron is just two parallel wave shaping functions with good marketing. Same as Inflator but Inflator never lied about what it was and is from like the year 2000. Many plugins already model transformer hysteresis now. Now we have trademark trolls claiming to model a line amp and it’s a wave shaping function with filtered sidechain. “Analog” when UAD has been circuit modeling classics for decades and Fuse and DDMF are modeling some of the craziest stuff. Some of what Ray and his collaborators Roger Schultz and the Elysia guys have dug up sounds nuts. crazy German dictation tape recorders for Neold, insane Grampian pa amp/mic pre that goes from clean to guitar amp, explosive TAB BJT limiters with tons of wicked distortion and sidechain bleed for incredible hair. Goodhertz reverse engineered the boss vinyl sim compressor algorithm. Pulsar built a pretty good fet modeled comp in their 1178, didn’t exactly nail the distortion, and so let you shove like a ton of other cool distortion approaches on it for extra fun 🤩. And then people want to release primitive distortion functions and supposedly modeled compressors when they don’t know how to write an eq outside of outdated textbooks approaches that feed the quantization error back into itself for numerical errors and at single precision, gross dc offset and numerical errors increasing with sample rate. 🤯🔫

The presenter/influencer like most is immediately irritating but then I remember that their clickbait style is not for me.

dan, are you a programmer? What do you do for a living? I used to work in the back end of businesses. In Joe Brandon’s America, I am editing, mixing, mastering, and teaching.

LOL The whole professional presenter/influencer line of work is dodgy AF. It wouldn't be unreasonable to think them all as professional hipsters!

For the price of that plugin, I'd just rather get something real. This guy on Reverb wires up all kinds of vintage transformers for music making. reverb.com/shop/alexs-gear-locker-1324I have 3 sets from him. All different, all awesome.
