I've received emails from people in the past asking me if i was interested in building a 51x box and PSU, i always say ehhh.. simply because of the "no good deed goes unpunished rule" lol. Now i found this, and thought i'd post it for guys, though it's currently out of stock, it is the first alternative to DIY i've heard of... good luck vandaal-electronics.com/products/studio-gear/500-rack

Thanks, Tony...Any idea on the quality? I know this guy - joelsguitarrepair@gmail.com - will build the CAPI stuff for CHEAP - and does a fantastic job. He has built 2 VC528's, a VP28 for me and a CAPI 51x rack for littlesicily.

Also, an 8 slot API with two VK Dsub cables would be $604...

I believe this is a rebranding on Jeff and Volkers rack kit?? It certainly looks the same, i did not see a pic of the power supply, so....? but if it's providing the 24v rail, and jeffs PSU works so darn well, i would venture to guess its a Capi/silent arts 51x PSU

Also, an 8 slot API with two VK Dsub cables would be $604... cool deal, but consider yourself warned , the 24v power rail units are gonna come fast, and then ur gonna get bad GAS with no ability to achieve relief with your restricting 16v rails lol the reason i say this, is you need to design in and purchase MORE $ parts, and build labor to step up the voltage on 16v rails, for power hungry units. for instance the Don's classics NV73(exact 1073 clone) is $50+ less in parts when using 51x set up, same for the U76 blue revA fet compressor i believe. As the 51x gains popularity, designers are going to love the space savings in their designs, and the cost reductions for manufacturing that will achieve a lower price point. Also, the beauty of the 51x rig, is it is insanely over built, youd go through a 1/2 dozen other guy 500 racks/PSU's before this beast will give up! its a serious piece IMV hope this helps

Yeah, yeah, yeah...I know...I just need to pull the trigger on the 51x...but I'm just paralyzed. I need some dough to buy the 51x, so I'd have to sell my current rack...then it would take a while to get the 51x and then I'd have to get it built (more money)...so, we're talking about 3-6 weeks of downtime...Of course, I could just put it on the credit card, but damn, everything is already on the credit card. Also - more slots means more temptation.

Sorry for giving you more GAS 8)

Don't think it's on it's way out...it just can only handle a certain amount at a time I'm gonna do some arranging to see if that helps

jsteiger, Jeff, did you give this guy permission to retail your 51x rack? or is this not ur unit? it certainly seems it is, if he's NOT on the up and up...? I apologize for bringing him attention, and JK, if this is the case, I'd like you to please delete this thread. thanx

That is not my rack nor is it Volker's or Cemal's. Just some guy who is manufacturing racks to meet the 51x format. I don't think it's a big deal. I doubt he is selling very many.

Im disturbed by the idea of someone taking other peoples designs without permission??? Check out the mic/mod thread i posted yesterday, i guess im on a bad roll??? its unreal! that guy's straight up lifting design from some really creative and hard working guys who spent a ton of $ on R&D, and created ingenious designs, he's printing up copycat pcbs, and claiming things as his own! If it matters not to you Jeff, JK, please delete this thread, i feel responsible for bringing this to light, it's upsetting in light of the mic/mod debacle, and it feels wrong to me.. both threads were a simple web discovery and attempt to help non DIY guys out, none the less, apologies Jeff, Volker, Cemal! Sincerely Tony

Sincerely Tony When we push a new format/standard, let's not be surprised when people jump in and start manufacturing to that standard. Isn't the 51x format meant to be widely adopted (hopefully)? If so, we should actually applaud this new/different rack/psu offering. Jeff stated that it's not his rack, nor is it Volker's or Cemal's. Doesn't seem like this new guy is "lifting" any designs, but rather adhering to the 51x format. Now, I actually have no idea whether Jeff and the other 51x developers have established any terms for manufacturers that wish to adopt the 51x format. However, if the 51x developers intend for others to adopt the format, the rest of us ought to be OK with new manufacturers entering the fray. Do we get upset when new 2520 format DOAs become available? Same sort of thing, right?

I think I was over reacting due to that other thread, I want the 51x thing to take off, I'd just like to see credit given, where credit is due. If the guys who came up with this great shit get screwed, they'll justifiably get frustrated, and quit the game! Then we're left with the copy cats, and that's a fail for all of us IMO
