Don't get me wrong...I like them...and they translate really well...but I just don't LOVE them. I want something that has all the same upside, but a little more impressive...That speaker that you turn up and it makes you excited. I've had the Twins before - and they probably fit the bill...Any other ideas?

Did you get Pro Ac's? I'm VERY leery of getting into the power amp market...Plus, aren't the monitors like $2K and then a half decent PA is $2K?

I have a pair of ProAc Studio 100's... used pair goes for $1000-$1450 depending on age/condition. I tried several power amps and settled on a McIntosh that cost around $600-$700. Plenty of power and sounds great together. I already had some NHT Pro subs and use them in this setup. Sounds killer and way better than the Twins, in my room that is.

NO SHIT? I thought a decent power amp would run $2K up?

nah, maybe a new bryston. Even a used Bryston is like $1300 or so. But, I like the McIntosh as much or more anyhow.

On ebay?

yes. if u wanna get a bryston get either the 4B-ST or the older 4-B for even less $$. I think Reid Shippen has a Lexicon 225 (same as 4B-ST) that he's selling locally. That's the one I auditioned. Low end it tighter w/ Bryston, but mids and top are smoother with Mc.

Didn't you have the Solo's too at one point? You really like the Pro Ac's better?

Didn't you have the Solo's too at one point? You really like the Pro Ac's better? I tried the solo's, twins and the emotiva stealth 8's... proac's were the clear winner for me. More detail than the twins... my room isn't big enough to really get far enough away from the twins..so take that into consideration. You really ought to try a pair of ProAc's.

I have some Pro-AC clones (same drivers, same crossovers) and I have some JBL LSR4328P. I gotta say that I love the JBLs above most everything else. Once they are "room calibrated" they can't be beat for translation on anything. May not necessarily be an "upgrade" from focals but well worth a trial to see how they work for you.

Speaker shopping SUCKS!
I was shopping a while ago and ended up getting the SE Eggs. They actually translate nicely and are revealing. They are not impressive sounding but my room isn't big enough to have anything impressive sounding. When I get a new room I may look at the Toft speakers. Those seem pretty cool.

It seems like anywhere you look on the internet, the upgrade from just about anything are Barefoots, although I've not tried them myself.

A local studio has a pair of the big ones. The detail in the low end was very nice. You could hear all the quality and character of the kick drum. I really liked them but they are big.
Svart, can you post more info about your Pro-Ac clones? I have heard ProAc's at a few studio's and they are pretty cool speakers.

Was on the row today and studio had barefoot's... def nice but not necessary. get a set of monitors u love, then also make sure your monitoring chain is up to par with speakers... meaning don't run it all thru a mackie big knob...

True dat. I go out of my Symphony into the KRK, then into my Focals...I've tried it both ways and honestly, I can't hear a damn difference. Someone was telling me how that was such a sin on GS...and how there's a HUGE chasm of difference. But I honestly can't tell. Of course, I could have tin ears too.
