i just received mine. i gave it a quick test today with some older ribbon mics and some LDC mics and bass guitar. i tell you I like what it is doing with ribbon mics on vocals. i tried a few ribbons mics just on vocals to check i was not going crazy but when you push the peak reduction to somewhere between 12 oclock and 3 oclock its like it adds this slight sheen of brightness to the ribbon mic that brings a smile to the dial. is this normal for these types of optical compressors? i was loving the ribbons more then condensers. i think i am turning into a ribbon fanatic. Seems like a great combo.

Yes, that happens quite commonly. Especially if you have a microphone that's 'heavy' in one area. It's almost like the heavy part overloads and the sheen shines through. Weird explanation or description. but short answer is yes

Just delivered one of these to a happy client. Sounds really nice if you ask me.
