I have SSD4 and forgot about it since getting SD3, but just don’t seem very interested in other drum programs at the moment.

anybody know if you can demo sd5 or is there just an upgrade path ?
Since switching to logic I haven't used sd4 in years.

Yes a complete deluxe 2 kit and it doesn’t expire: that’s kinda sweet!

I was really hoping Slate would come up with an even better version of tap 2 find, like maybe thats what was taking so long with the release.

Downloaded the free kit and damn. It sounds great. The difference I find is that the SSD5 kit is immediately usable without any tweaking. I love SD3, but I do still end up tweaking a lot to get the right sounds. I'm playing around on a Maschine, and it just seems more playable for some reason. I really don't want to upgrade, but it's freaking $79. Now I'm super curious to see what other sounds there are - and to upgrade my Blackbird kits which I always liked...

Couldn’t stand it. I’m such a sucker for drum programs.

What about the usability factor, tap to find features like that ?

What about the usability factor, tap to find features like that ? There aren't any, really. I've just buckled down and been playing most of my stuff lately...gotten tons better. But I'll say this - wow...the Blackbird kits are freaking stunning. Holy crap.

Nice: logic drummer has spoiled me completely as I just tweak it now:) Can’t be bothered screwin around looking for parts, libraries blah blah blah.
You can drag drummer parts into a midi track and use other engines but it didn’t seem to work perfectly with sd3 so I went back to using logic drummer files and I send kick, snare and drum bus to ob comps which I like .
I’ll probably try slate 5 demo for fun but that’s likely it .

When It dropped the first thing I did was search for Slates version of tap 2 find... and nothing. Which makes this a no go for me. I Like Slate stuff but it would be like going back to a flip phone not having that feature.

Honestly, I think this is aimed more at drummers...don’t think he’s focusing on midi stuff.

Aren’t they the same audio as before? They didn’t re-do the sampling did they? I don’t know what the deal is...but it all sounds tremendously better. I used SD3 today for a brush trainbeat on something. And I pulled it up right after using SSD5 for a while. Of course, the brush kit is the big Old Ludwig I think, so very different things, but damn - I can use both of these programs. There’s a dry kit in the blackbird expansion that just sounds freaking fantastic. I would venture to say it’s more of what I’m used to when I get tracks from commercial studios. There’s not 43 mics and esoteric telephone booths. Just extremely well recorded kits ready to go.

Samples from older libraries are the same but they’ve all been recoded for the new engine. So as I understand it, velocity changes, timbre changes etc should all sound nicer.

Honestly, I’ve gotten to the point that I play most of my drum stuff. I just finally buckled down and decided to get better at it. Sometimes I’ll use T2F when I need more complicated stuff with lots of ghost notes. You can always use T2F and EZ/SD to build and then drag over to Slate. You can map Slate to SD (they’re very similar anyway). I ended up using SD3 on this thing I’m building because it was a brush kit train beat thing...and SD3 had better variety and sounded better. I could hear SSD5 being chosen on bigger productions.

Im waiting for him to close me with “I’ll throw in the custom fit rubber floor mats INCLUDING A TRUNK LINER, a $1995 value.” He could sell me a pair of those 85” Raven’s if he just offered to throw in a complete set of custom fit rubber floor mats.
