With the legit setup that you have, and the stuff you're working on, I think it would be a great fit.

Thanks for the suggestion. It was actually on the list for this year and then I got sucked in to the stereo EQ rabbit hole and ended up with a Retro 2a3. The 2500 just got bumped down the list a little!!!

I have had an Expressor for a couple years now. I like it for certain things but for high compression stuff, I use other things. It gets murky to me in high compression settings.

Fortunately, you can back off the mix knob but there goes your compression, too.

I resort back to Kjareus Audio Gold Compressor plug or I rent a Charter oaks SCL-1 (until I purchase one) as I am into very transparent compression. The second it gets milky sounding and tone is disappearing, I am out.

Noah, how do you like that retro eq? I'm looking at that for stereo buss duties.

Noah, how do you like that retro eq? I'm looking at that for stereo buss duties. I'm loving it. Pultec "style" EQ is kinda a new avenue for me. I've always been a precision carving type EQ guy. I'm getting used to the subtleties of usin this kind of EQ. I'm mixing to tape on an Ampex 440b right now and the 2a3 seems like it was born for this kind of thing. Small amounts of boost and cut seem to work best. I tracked a bunch of vocals with it and it's just stellar. AWTAC channel amp, retro 176, 2a3. Pretty damned mix ready. I'd say I love it. I'll never sell it, that's for sure.
