Just wanted to say that if you guys have seen this pre floating around out there and kind of wondered about it, I've definitely found what this baby is amazing at. Bass, DI bass, or set it up as an insert and run your bass through it if the take isn't saturated enough. I've always been a stickler for DI bass, and my favorite was the avalon DI box. But I have to say the Burl takes the cake here.
I like the pre on some other things as well. I like it as my ribbon mic pre. The pre amp is very clean and open to me. If I back to back it to a 1073, it feels like I'm hearing between the notes a little more, so it's really good on acoustic as well. So it's got some uses, if you want to get things growling you've got a stepped input gain and an output gain. This is why I like it on bass especially, you can crank down on it, get it overdriven a touch, but the low octave still comes through very very nicely, but you also get a nice cutting low mid growl as well.
I think as people try these pre's out more and more will start to see what these things can do on a bass, it's the best one for me yet. This the D version of the B1 as well, this has the iron output trafo. I think these sell for around $650, so not bad priced either. Phase, pad, 48v, and a LO-z too. Just thought I'd give a comment on it, see if anyone else has used it on bass and experienced my same amazement with it.

From clips I've heard, I prefer the tone of the B1 over the D. BUT that's just hearing others post clips. Love to get my hands on both. Starting with the B1.

I'm not sure what it does Cowboy, but it does something special to a bass guitar. Doesn't matter if you use it to cut the bass with or using it as an insert on the bass, it's a steal at the price too. I havn't had experience with the other transformer models, but I would imagine they would be very smooth.
I was really impressed with transient detail of it as well. When I used it on acoustic I was amazed at the detail it had, the smoothness of the low end was really nice too. I like how it reacted with a ribbon mic too, it was head and shoulders over any of my other pre's. I really feel this Pre is one of those that's a sleeper, but people will catch on.
If you want to hear what it does to anything let me know, I'd be glad to run something through it.
