Got a Jupiter 8 back in -94. Though it's working and it's an impressive piece I've hardly used it. Actually always prefer my Matrix 12 and even Omnisphere etc etc. I've also been lusting for a 2nd TC Phoenix for a while so when I stumbled across a Phoenix seller at GS open for a Jupiter 8 trade I read it as a sign... I'm pretty sure that the J8 is a better investment and will continue to gain value, but I'm not a collector so I feel pretty positive about this quite rare trade. Anyone has something wise to say on the subject? Any synth nerds around? :-)

The Phoenix is a bit cheaper in EU and the J8 I believe since a couple of years has reached a cult status with totally refurbished units for like $4500 and up, some even up to 7k. But yes, I believe I'll probably go for this trade.

Maybe he can add a few Euros on top to balance the deal?

I'm a big synth nerd so it's my instinct to say hang on to the JP-8 as they seem to holding their value quite well. It's amazing how quickly the JP-8 jumped in price over the past several years as I remember passing one up for $2200 since I though it was too much at the time. Really kicking myself over that choice...
Anyway, I'd probably ask for a bit more to balance things a bit as current prices value the JP-8 more than a second hand Phoenix. You could easily sell it for more than the price of a new Phoenix. Then again, it's completely your call.
