It's like the CV4 takes the best of both examples. My guess is that the CV4 would sit the best then the CV stock then the CV3 mod.

CV4 sounds better than the other 2 still, to me. CV3 modded just sounds kinda dull. CV3 stock sounds like it has a high end bump.

Just wanted add that I know it needs touch of presence and still a work on progress but It has gotten a lot of good feedback this far and be available shortly. I like the cv3 out of the box I was asked see what could be done with a upcoming project for this person. We will post a finial in a couple days

Here's the thing - He can kind of dial it in to whatever people prefer. I think this customer wanted a something a little darker...but it prob still needs a little top. Really what amazes me is just HOW different the files are tonally. Also, one thing that I have found that is so good about the CV4 mod he did for me was just how consistent the new capsule is across the dynamic range. It never pinches or freaks out when you really lay into it...

Also for those interested i took the time to install a couple different tubes. They all sounded great. At the end of it all i went back to the stock tube with that circuit. Like anything it takes a few tweaks to get it to where it will settle for most ears. Most or all the builds ive done in the past have been directly for the artist and their needs. To appeal the mass is a new and incredibly hard thing to do to say the least. OMG is it ever... Hell i feel blessed if i can make a high percentage sing with a new set of highly inflated and shined brass balls, walk with swagger and a smile then FU*$ yea it was a GOOD day.

I believe a well designed capsule has a very finite window of parameters it's components must fall within, skin tension, capacitance, back plate acoustics and resonances, if one thing is off, it's a fail. This stuff is way over my head, so my words to Shannon have been, and will continue to be "do what u do bro", my take is shannon brings capsules to peak performance of the intended design(not easy), and for me, I will continue to rely on his expertise, he doesn't come to my job and tell me how to flip the burgers 8) let the big dawg eat! |
