For the moment, I'm aiming at "The Highway Don't Care", but my personal taste is more Lyle Lovett's "The Road to Ensenada", or Ryan Adam's "Two", so I guess I'm shooting at something in between.

The players ARE "the arrangement" in Nashville. And, of course the drummer is a huge part of that (re:drum programming). Those aren't different things. No one is telling these players what notes to play when. They're hired because they can hear a demo and/or look at the chord chart and spontaneously fall in with what you hear on the records.

Yes, and no. If you call drum programming "arrangement", than you're right, but I've found what's missing on my tracks is often the dynamics of a real drummer. Still, that shouldn't make or break the song for publishing, I don't think. You know I really like the Slate one. I just picked that up for like 39 bux or something really cheap like that. I used to program drums for demo songs, and if I wanted to get them real I would have to go over the velocities of every single hit, and change those up, sometimes adding that human thing that BFD has when I used it. I used to make my own rooms too and fiddle with that until it was close. But it's incredibly hard to do what you're doing, I hope I never have to go back to that land again, but I did buy that Slate SSD4 for this little demo a few weeks back and I thought it sounded really good. Slate drums on sale now?

Slate drums on sale now? It was $39 for like the custom package. It came with a kit and a few different drums, I think maybe 2 cymbal packs? Anyways, for what I do I have all of the slate trigger stuff, so I really only needed a simple kit for the cymbals, then if I want the sound of any of the other samples I can just replace those with my own collection or some of stevens trigger samples. Pretty good deal if you ask me.

Thanks guys. I hear you Popmann. I may actually do a few demos while I'm visiting Nashville early this spring, mainly because I miss the interaction with players with chops and the taste to be understated when needed and then hit it when it's time to soar.

Singer/Songwriter stuff.always struggled with drums in my songs. Looking forward to use these.
