Waves H-Delay is quite nice. I mainly record jazz and acoustic music so no evident delays expected but I can tune it for subtle image enhancement, old school slap back echo and early reflections That’s my standard one. Just so easy

In software, Echo Boy has mostly eaten up my other delays. The Slate Repeater thing does sound really good, but for some reason the GUI just never makes sense to me. I need to spend some time with it to let it all sink in. (Sync in?) I used to love the Waves 2-tap and 6-tap plugs, but I lost them to a WUP transition that I've never had the stomach to pay.
In hardware, I love my Strymon delays over here. El Capistan, yes, for sure. I love mine. But I really really love my Strymon DIG, as well. Just a fantastic pedal all-around.

TC Alter Ego X4 for a pedal I'm currently in the hunt for a pedal for live gigs, with the echoboy & h-delay I'm covered in daw land.....but just when I think I've narrowed it down to a boss dd-6 you've got to up and throw in that one

Does that icy repeat thing. the Alter Ego is more of a Tape Echo / analog echo type of sound... more blended and ambient. Completely different sounds.

I also saw the strymon delay which was in the classic tape delay style as well. Tempting

If we’re talking about classic sounding guitar delays, nothing can touch the Diamond Memory Lane Jr. Four of my musician friends have already bought one after trying mine.

I had one of those for awhile. It's definitely a great pedal. Ended up selling mine, but I still miss it sometimes. Diamond is a great manufacturer: their Tremolo is fantastic. I love the sound of its buffer, even.

What most pedals for delays are missing is a send/return loop and that's 100% why I love my Deluxe Memory Boy. It's a very effective way of using modulation without it obscuring the part - I particular like putting flangers, phasers, EQ and Wah pedals in the feedback loop. Works great on vocals and brass too!
If there was a digital one with the same level of functionality I'd definitely pick it up.

Software: Mostly Waves H Delay Cubase's Mono delay followed by Slate VTM Slate Repeater I have UA RE-201 Space Echo but was underwhelmed Hardware: Wish I had invested in a pair of Lexicon PCM 42's and an Eventide H 3000 I use my Echo Park and Boss Delay often for guitar effects.

which DI box would you recommend to connect them to my audiointerface? If you mean re-amping, this works: Radial EXTC

I’m looking forward to the new Valhalla DSP one, not much info yet but appears to be based on the RE-201. Am pretty sure Sean will nail it.

From latest tweets seems like it's gonna model RE-201, RE-301 and EP-3, should be killer. Have beta tested the last few Valhalla plugs, but usually only just before release, will let you know if I get my hands on this one early!

H Delay for a plugin TC Alter Ego X4 for a pedal I don't really have a rackmount go-to but I do own a TC D Two that I got really cheap D-two is really a pretty nice delay, if it didn’t live in the shadow of the 2290 it would probably have a cult following. It’s also the last studio rackmount delay produced.

On my guitar, the Moog MiniFooger Delay, with the drive circuit, is my favorite.
Others I own and love:
Roland Space Echo RE-201 Strymon El Capistan EH Deluxe Memory Man Maxon AD9

i once had the Lexicon PCM-42. I assumed it was the best rack mount digital delay back then. It blended perfectly into a lead vocal. I've yet to find a software plug that works as well.

Love using my guitar pedal delays in the mix. Deluxe Memory Man Tap Tempo 1100 (MN3005) Strymon El Capistan Catalinbread Belle Epoch Deluxe Aww, man! You've got a DMMTT 1100! I'm jealous. I've had a DMM without tap, and I've had a JHS Panther Cub with tap. (And a bunch of other delay pedals.) The DMM sounded the best, but the tap on the Panther Cub was great.

Had lots over the years but I've settled on the Eventide H9 for hardware and a variety of plugins depending on the situation. I do miss my RE-201! I miss my RE-201 also. And my RE-150. Would really like an RE-555 and a Korg Stage Echo.
I have never encountered any digital Space Echo emulation that works right. They always miss something, usually two or more somethings. That includes the Boss pedal.
John - I know this guy has been working on his RE-301 emulation for several years - he also hand builds amps and other fun pedals. May be worth checking it out. www.thenocturnebrain.com/products/the-atomic-brain-miniI've never used a real Roland so I can't vouch for how close this comes, but I like the sound I'm hearing in the demo. For me, live I use either an original Ibanez AD9 delay or a TC Flashback. I miss the crunchieness of the SPX90 for live as well. Plugins - Primal Tap has replaced my use of Mod Delay III, but also use PSP's Lexicon PSP42, SoundToys Crystallizer and Echoboy.

I remember someone saying Bob Clearmountain thinks the Yamaha D5000 was the best digital delay. I've wondered which is considered better, the Yamaha or the Lexicon PCM42.
I love the H9 pedal from Eventide, it's not high on my priority list, but I'll get one eventually.

To me, delay pedals are like picking microphones, or pre's, or compressors, or you know, just about everything!
Depending on the guitar, the amp, the other pedals around it, your playing style, and the song( amongst other things), one may work better than others.
That's why I have a bunch. I've tried many many that were just not "my sound".
They worked and sounded great, maybe one of the controls wasn't to my liking, or it didn't impart the sound or tone I was looking for.
I'm totally addicted to delays, and although I'm happy with the ones I've got, it doesn't mean I don't have several on my list to try still.
The first step is admitting you have a problem....

Yeah, it's probably my favorite of the bunch. I bought one when they first came out and were super hard to find. Apparently there was a shortage or a fake batch of the original MN3005 delay chip, which forced EH to stop producing them. Anyways, I find it to have the most vibe and mojo of the lot. Super fun.
