Looks like the CA70 is finally off and running. I demo’d the modular version and loved it. Thick, not glassy, but pristine. The Negative Feedback really allows you to dial in or out the top end. I see one in my future...but gotsta save up. And yes, I’m kind’ve a shill...but an unpaid shill. Lol $1699

Wasn't there going to be a 2RU - 2 channel version? Did I dream that John?

I just got my pair. Numbers 3 and 4. They sound killer. I had the rack with both pre’s in my room for a few months and these seem exactly the same. Big and weighty. With the negative feedback at noon I would say it is just a touch on the smooth side. All the way counter clockwise sounds very forward, bordering on edgy. All the way clockwise is VERY smooth. Pushes the sound back in the mix considerably. Not unlike rolling the tone knob back on a guitar. Definitely not the same thing, but the closest way I can put it into words. Between the Negative Feedback control and the Low EQ, it’s a pretty versatile box.

From what I hear, the 3U 2 channel will come back only this time without swappable transformers. A couple of new features as well that I can't recall at the moment.
I like the looks of this single channel. Seems like a great price point for that kind of sound. A CA-286S may be next? or is that already on the street?

Hey guys - yes the single channel CA-70S army is starting to roll out (June 1st is the official street date) which means the CA-286S will be on the streets by mid/late summer if all goes well. These all have the same core signal circuit/components/nos tubes etc but feature our new proprietary power supply and as the pictures of the front panel indicate - a more user friendly design. Other pertinent info - the Input and Output Transformers are fixed inside the chassis on these guys CA-70S has the high nickel CT-110hn Input / CT-41 Output CA-286S will have the standard CT-110 Input / CT-41 Output The new PS2 mk2 2-channel format will return in the fall hopefully - it will also have its transformers fixed inside the chassis BUT each channel will have both Input Transformer options installed with a switch to choose which one you want on the front panel (i know, what a concept!). Also a '2-chain' switch that will automatically route the Output of Ch. 1 into the Input of Ch. 2 for a tube console/super tube channel vibe - all sorts of fun to be had there.

Mr. Coil - my personal sweetspot is 2RU, 2 channels. Perhaps impossible, but virtually everyone I talk to is downsizing these days. Perhaps not in terms of number of mics or pre's or outboard, but certainly in terms of studio "space".
I know 3RU stuff is historically "correct", but there's zero chance of it going into my studio at this point... (not directing this at you specifically - but for anything from pultec's to vintage style comps.)
I'd really like 2 channels of tube pre's and cannot allocate 4RU of space to them. MAYBE 3RU, but not 4.
It's my $0.02, downgraded to $0.00000025731 for streaming, but my opinion nonetheless. Good luck on the new rollouts!! Hope that a 2RU, 2 channel Coil unit shows up sometime!

The Coil PS6 format is up to 6 channels in 7U. That is a more efficient use of rack space than 1 channel in 2U. Why not go balls deep?

Not gonna happen Jeff.
Can't dedicate 7RU for anything at this point, and I'm a HUGELY committed hardware fan. Most of the guys I talk with (of whom there are many) are extremely reticent to start filling up racks. The trend is in fact pushing the opposite direction - towards a couple of racks of versatile outboard, not 15 racks of specialized gear. That's what I hear every day.
Then, there;s the fact that I don't need 6 channels, nor do I want to spend that kind of coin in the current market. (Streaming raping content creators, Subscription Model plans for music acquisition selling licences for tracks @ $0.12 each, and Artificial Intelligence created music nipping at our heels....)
Unless I sell off that rack of CAPI pre's and stuff.....hmmmm......I might be able to swing 7RU then. LOL

Hope that a 2RU, 2 channel Coil unit shows up sometime! When we crunched the numbers - it was way more cost effective to get 2 channels and the PSU in a 3U chassis than a 2U with a remote PSU (it would have to be remoted, no way around it) It was an effort to just get a pair of CA-70 circuits to fit upright in the 3u chassis with enough clearance for the grid caps on the 1st stage 6J7. We have considered a limited edition 2-ch tabletop wood chassis/steel insert rack that would hold 2 of our PS6 modules ala the Neve 5052 portable 2-ch frame. Sort of a 'lunchboxing' of Coil stuff - would that float your boat? Lets poll it -
