Anyone rocking one of these? www.diy-racked.com/2016/06/dr-mb2/I have an SB4001 im building. But now wish Id gone for this guy instead. Has a 1.5 ratio which was my favorite to use on the Duality I used to work on. And has parallel processing built in AND has turbo mode built in easily. Looks like a Quad VCA so should sound good. Anyone built one? FYI for those that don't know what turbo mode is(I didn't for a while) it basically changes how the compressor acts to the center signal vs side information

Maybe I’m confused. I had a dual GSSL years ago. It had some issues with the build (inadvisable secibd hand purchase) but did sound good in many applications.

My SB4000 has Quad VCA but no turbo mode. Separate mod. Seems kind of pricy for diy ? Not to me. Its in line with my SB4000 build in terms of price. Around 600 bucks. And it has more features than the SB4000 or any other SSL clone out there. Only one that is close is the SB4001 500 series and thats not a kit and doesn't have Turbo mode.

Thought that was 600 euros ? Your US dollar is way stronger than the Cdn dollar Here in Canada landed with taxes and duties it will be approaching $13-1400 cdn. I agree it has good parts and features ! I guy is selling locally a GRIF ssl diy build used asking $450 cdn.

I believe the Serpent stuff has the turbo mode built into the circuit.

dang how is that possible considering the case, faceplate and toroid alone would be like 50% or more of that price.

dang how is that possible considering the case, faceplate and toroid alone would be like 50% or more of that price. MCMelectronics sells toroids for like 15$ but I might have pulled it from a broken piece of gear. Faceplace was 40-ish. Case was 40-ish, drilled and studded by myself. So yeah maybe 50% of the price. The rest of the parts I buy in bulk and had in stock, so if you're buying small quantities for single projects it might be more. I also didn't get fancy with anything. Bare minimum! I think the next most expensive thing was the meter. Hairball audio is where I got it IIRC. Still doable for 200$ if you're trying!

Hmm so switch for turbo mode or is that in fact what the internal sidechain mono/Stereo button does? If thats the case then sweet! Still the DR MB2 has a 1.5 ratio and built in parallel. I might build one of those too for the masterbus and use my sb4000 for a drum bus/parallel drum compressor.

The mono mode is the same as the GSSL mode.

Will pick one up later this year probably. His site has a bunch of other really nice kits too.
