I was thinking about picking this up. SW had it up on their site for $499 all last month. Now it's $999, which makes it an easy decision.

I hate iZotope's business model the last few years. You basically have to pay every year if you want the bugs fixed on your software. Most other software companies offer free upgrades on products you have already bought. Not iZotope. Give it a new version number, fix a few bugs, add a few features, introduce a load more bugs, and charge you an extortionate "upgrade" fee for the privilege. I've stopped paying, will only "upgrade" my RX every 2 or 3 iterations from now on.

Personally, they confuse the fuck out of me with their pricing and packages?

Their marketing strategy is strange. I own N2/O8 Advanced, yet I still get "upgrade" offers from them. A better tactic would be to offer me the things I don't own. But what do I know . . .

I think that's one of the advantages of subscription packages. The company needs to keep the product up to date and competitive, AND they can't really dig deeper into their existing customers' wallets or they'll just walk away. Relatively speaking, software prices are only going down. For instance, since I've gotten the Slate Everything Bundle, I'm confident the subscription price won't go up, and they've only added units to it.

Sure no one can work for free and updates or bug fixes are a hell of work. Thats why I love to pay the Slate subscription plan. I am always up to date I dont have to discuss WUP or anything else like this. But the best thing with Slate sub is that I get every new plug in for free on top. With waves I get nothing on top and I have to pay anyway with every OS upgrade. I just say it again my Waves SSL bundel ate up about 1 K in Euro. No more Waves in my place.

Yeah, Between having Logic and the Slate bundle, I've been weaning myself off as many aftermarket plugs as possible. Logic has a huge arsenal of plugs that are more than adequate, and the Slate bundle just has a very complementary set of plugs. Eiosis is a very good De-esser - and I know it will be great if I ever figure out how to make it work consistently. Verbsuite Classics are great sounding reverbs, and if I'm looking for something different, Logic's verbs are very good. I use Slate's Tape Machine sparingly, but their Mix Rack has a great selection of tools that are easy to pop in with very good presets for starting points. The FG-X and the VBC Rack don't get a lot of love from some quarters, but they are staples when I master and they have become part of my sound, with AdLimit and a few meters at the bottom. I pretty much don't touch the Waves stuff that I've purchased any more. And really, I don't need them. The only aftermarket plugs that have found their way into my mixes as of late are MJUC, Soothe, and Poor Plate. It wouldn't take much to wean myself off of the MJUC and the PP, but I do need one of those smart automagical EQ type plugs.
