Its 70* there, It's 0* here!), I brought my BLA 002 back with me, I'm trying to connect to any laptop I can get my hands on, anyone know of a simple adapting interface from FireWire too USB...or...any viable options that won't cost a boat load of$$

That would be for an ANCIENT laptop. Express cards were an old PC laptop....kind of PCI bus external equivalent--so there were RME Hammerfall express cards...and in this case, I assume he means a firewire express card. I haven't seen on in a PC for years.
This not really worth looking into, IMO....while they do make some little USB to firewire adapter things...ASIO drivers bind at a low level--I have a hard time believing that a firewire driver would bind properly to a firewire through USB option for real time work. I think those are useful for connecting an old camera or something to transfer pix--where all it has to do is talk--not talk efficiently in a time sensitive manner.
How is it you end up taking your recording gear (including computer interface) somewhere...and not the computer?
Even if you find a Mac...they haven't had Firewire in like 3 years. However...you could ALSO buy a Thunderbolt>firewire thing from the Apple store....which will work because it's a completely different interface--INTENDED for use that way--it's not an adpater/translation...it's literally a firewire "card" with a TB connection...So, you'd also need to find an older Mac. Only one of my three have FW ports, FWIW--the one that's like 6 year old. Both laptops bought last year (or maybe 18 months ago technically) have no FW.

The device I was referring to came with a Music XPC laptop I purchased several years ago. Tecnically, it's called a "32bit Cardbus, 1394 Cardbus, PCMCIA to Firewire IEEE 1394". It's a credit card sized thing with three Firewire ports on it that inserts into the side of the laptop. I never used it, and don't know much about other laptops. I thought that this slot might be standard issue on other machines. I know Magma use one on an expansion-chassis interface they have. I've also seen one on RME's website recently. Glad you found a solution.
