I know they are different how do you like the 72's compared to the 7603? I ask only because I thought of having a pair before. They are very cool too. Some of my favorite pres, 'big and thick' is a way to describe em.

The 1272s are much thicker sounding than 1073s. The 1073s have a bit more air on the top. The 1272s have more low mids. I can’t speak to the Chameleon Labs 7603, but my AMS Neve 1073 DPX distorts a lot easier than my 1272. It’s really easy to push it into a gritty territory, which is actually an issue for the music I do. So I really need to watch my gain staging. The 1272 really needs to be pushed hard to distort, and mostly just adds harmonics when you do.
