I can't seem to enter this giveaway. I don't have Facebook so I tried with my email address. Then it just comes back saying I don't have apps enabled or something. I don't want any apps I just want to enter. You can't even reply to the thread it is posted in. Not impressed at all.
Cheers
Ian

I don't want any apps I just want to enter. You can't even reply to the thread it is posted in. Not impressed at all. Cheers Ian Yeah, this new trend toward "contests" that require social media and seem mostly oriented towards boosting a brand's Likes, Clicks, Hits, Twits, or whatever, tend to bug me, too, although I am on Farcebook and can (and did) "enter". The ones that REALLY, REALLY annoy me are the ones requiire Twitter membership, because I may be a lot of things but I AM NOT A TWIT, GODDAMN IT! And I consider things that attempt to force me to join the likes of a certain carrot-topped clown, reality TV "stars", "celebrities" who are famous solely for being famous, and other utterly noisome, noxious degenerate lifeforms that appear to have crawled out from under a slimy rock in an unpublished H.P. Lovecraft pistache, to be discriminatory against those attempting to maintain some degree of intelligence and self-respect in a rapidly deteriorating society. I'm serious. Really. Every time I encounter one of these I have a short debate with myself over whether I should simply boycott the brand involved, as I am a person who may or may not respond positively to advertising but I most certainly do respond negatively if I really hate an ad enough. There are brands I've been boycotting since the late '60s over ads I found particularly obnoxious. I've been told that many ad people intentionally make ads obnoxious in one way or another because it tends to make people remember the brand. What those advertising morons don't appear to understand is that sometimes you might not WANT people to remember you. Fortunately this contest did not arouse that level of ire, but I do feel that it's unfairly discriminatory (but not nearly as bad as contests that require internet enabled smartphones, as I keep my phone off the internet for security reasons - web enabled smartphones are a major point of access for identity theft.) Those of us who don't buy into that stuff should be given an avenue to obtain those "extra" entries we are being denied. Like, maybe twice as many as you get for tweeting, etc. Call it an intelligence bonus.....

i wonder if it's only open to US members, and the path for you doesn't explain adequately. I haven't read the rules, but I entered and have zero social media registrations.

except you know..this social media registration This isn't social media, this format predates the concept. You're right. This isn't a medium in which to be social... By your definition, that which has not yet been named, cannot be later named? So a virus, once discovered, that killed someone previously, can't be said to have been killed by that virus, because that virus had not been found previously? Call it what you want, a forum is a type of social media.

I don't think they refer to the comments section of news sites as social media do they? etc etc Maybe it's 'robot overlords' versus 'no robot overlords', or 'independent' versus 'co-opted by The Man (parasites)'.

You seek out content the same way as any other social medium - by going to the website. there are notifications on this website just like facebook is a website that has notifications. Many comments sections on news sites are either extensions of their facebook feed, or they use a service called discus. I'll allow "independent social media" vs "co-opted by the man (parasites) social media" - that seems right!

: )
The type referred to by the OP is the one used to substitute as an alternate co-opted personal identity.

You entered on the next to last day at 12:54 EDT. You just didn't win. It stated very clearly that you could enter by entering your email or logging into your Facebook account. There were opportunities to increase your chances to win by using your social media - you could gain more entries. And just so you know that it wasn't a requirement, the winner M57 only entered his email and did no social media. I actually struggled as to whether to limit entrants to people that actually participate on the forum - but I opened it to everyone. Even people with 2 posts complaining about the contest. Thanks for stopping by, though.

I can confirm that I didn't "enhance" my chances by using ANY social media. Though now, for Mark Fouxmann's sake, I'm kind of wishing I had. I just entered and won with my single entry.
