I want to build a tube 500 series preamp kit, is it worth it? Or are we looking at starved plate art pro vla style waste of timeness?
If it is worth it, can you recommend a good one? The more part inclusive the kit, the better!

How do you do a tube on +/-16V?

The sound skulptor sounds great --- I'd put it in the Neve family of tones, but maybe a tad darker. Switching tubes makes a big difference IMO, mullard and GE 5 star both sound better than the stock tube.
I'd wait for the new JLM tube pres to come out though.... I think the first is a Red 47 clone, and a pultec preamp clone.

I didn't think the JLM were 500 series footprints.

I didn't think the JLM were 500 series footprints. Yeah he’s doing double wide 500 series.

How do you do a tube on +/-16V? Convert amperage to a higher voltage and have less amps on hand is my guess. I know it uses all of the 160ma.
