Well I took the plunge and bought aFocusrite Clarrett 4pre. Great quality. Running on an iMac so I updated to 10.12.4 to fix any issues. But the actual Focusrite Unit is making a clicking sound like there is an internal hard drive clicking. Not too sure what that is about but it is not normal? Audio records fine though. Actual I think it might be an internal fan and the unit runs hot. Probably a return unit is in order.

Relays also click sometimes, but a clicking relay would likely cause problems with the audio in some way, probably routing related.

Sounds like maybe a relay is going nuts on and off. I don't think there's a fan in mine. It does get super hot after a while.
If it's a constant thing that could be a defect. Mine only clicks once in a while (rarely). Usually when I'm toggling settings in the driver.
Same with my Apollos.

I'd bet money on it. fold up a tiny bit of paper, and gently poke it in the fan output grill, just touching the fan, if the noise slows down, fan. Or you know, pull the top off it... 8) Cheers Wiz

Well it was a relay, i swapped it around for another one. I think. He said this is a common problem something about the relay switching on the air function gets stuck or something like that. Anyway i got another one. But i noticed its from the same batch 03/2016 so hopefully it will last.

I know this is an old thread - but I have the same problem with my Clarett 4pre and I would be interested to know if it has reoccurred with the new interface? With mine it always happens after switching on if the unit hasn't been used for a while, and then eventually settles down after a while - I this time the LEDs also flicker and are dimmer. Is yours still working without such problems since the exchange? thanks Helfried
