Anyone here have any experience with either the Drawner MC or the Kush main gain. Currently using a Dangerous music source for monitoring, but i wanna start using the source for its DAC. Will then need a new monitor controller

I'm confused...the Source is a monitor controller with built in DAC...what situation would you be needing another monitor controller? If you need another DAC, ie, to pump audio out to analog gear and back in during the mix process, you should be looking at another DAC...not another monitor controller, IMO.
FWIW, I use a Benchmark DAC1 as monitor volume and main DAC. It doesn't have al the dim, mute, mono switches of a typical controller, so I set those up in Cubase's control room...you will spend your Source money or more getting a solid monitor controller....meanwhile, an extra 2ch DAC is not expensive to come by, IMO/E.

Popmann, I'm not aware of another 2 channel DAC which has the same quality as the Dangerous DAC, that is less than the price of the Source. At one point, I was considering the same possibilities as Lolo, and thought about getting a second Source, one to use as a DAC and one to use as a monitor controller.
It's too bad that the Source actually has 2 DAC's, but the way the I/O is configured, Lolo (and I) can only use one. I wonder if they could fix that with a firmware upgrade?

Look at new old sound. Zenpro is now carrying them. People seemed to like them over at the other site. Lots of features.

Check out CAPI's controller, not positive it's available yet, but Jeff was making one for his looming console, 500 series I believe, and it's cool as get out! Sorry I don't know more.

Cheers Guys. Yeah Pop you cant monitor and use the DAC at the same time on the soure. on the one side if thinking of another DAC for mixing through analog. Considering Ross martin. This will be the cheaper option. But im sure the DAC on the source would be fantastic. On the monitoring side it lacks a feature or 2. Cant switch to mono, no option for a sub. All the features are on the drawmer mc. Dont think $599 is that bad for it. Heard the sound is on par with the source. tony, sure the Capi will be great, but at this stage I'm keeping my last 2 spaces my lunchbox for a pair of Eq's. Not time to get another lunchbox yet. I def am eyeing Jeff's new 553 eq's for those last 2 spaces.  Just wish I could build them myself. mulmany will check them out. |

The New Old Sound McOne looks great as well.
$259, no sub though. Not that I have ever mixed with a Sub.

Let us know how it works out, did you get the stepped vc. I have been eyeing one for the past year, but have not done it cause I really need to upgrade my interface and mac.
