I'm looking to step up from a Furman HDS-6 setup. It's decent, but I always wish there were more channels. I'm tempted by the Hear Back system (w/ Front End Audio mod), but don't think I'll be happy with just two more channels. I was pretty set on the Aviom setup, but recently noticed the (similar but much cheaper) Elite Core stuff on Full Compass' site. Does anyone have any experience with either/both systems? Any other suggestions.

I don't have any experience with any of these. I looked into them a while back but decided on something completely different. I bought a used Behringer ADA8000 and a handful of used behringer 8 channel mixers, which I mounted to cheap mic stands. I used the ADAT-to-Analog conversion in the ADA8000 to interface from my DAW and A/D to a snake with 8 channels (4 stereo pairs). This way, I create stems from the drums, vocals, guitars, and bass and can route this out to the mixer "pods"
Now the artist can not only set levels, but can essentially "mix" their own headphone mix to their liking. It's a lot more DIY than you might want, but it's a lot more flexible than just a bunch of outputs.

Doesn't Behringer have this? I have the Hearback system and really like it. Bought it second hand and it came with a cheap D-Sub - and I have to say, it's not very good. Seems like the sound was a lot better when it was connected ADAT...(I know longer have that option because of my Symphony card) www.behringer.com/EN/Products/P16-M.aspx

I've had a ton of experience with both the Hearback and the Furman both as an engineer and a player. Out of those two, I would recommend the Hearback system all day. It depends on what kind of band you're tracking, but there have been very few times where I've not been able to make the 8 channels work. The Elite Core stuff looks awesome, but for double the price not sure if it'd be that much better.

Thanks for the replies so far! I didn't know about the Behringer P16 system...not a big fan of the B-word, but I sure like the price!
With the Hear Back, does anyone use the aux in to feed a click to the drummer? I was considering that as a way of maximizing the system.

I was wondering if that Behringer system was any good. I think I only have one piece of Behringer gear, a Powerplay HA4700 headphone amp. I've had that thing for probably 8 years and it's still going strong. I think it's been dropped accidentally at least half a dozen times too. :-)

We have had the Furman 16 channel system for a few years. Good sound and great interface ergonomics. It changed our life at the studio. Many clients comment on how good an experience they have with the studio's monitoring. Can't compare to other systems though.

My layout would usually look something like this: Drums - Stereo 1-2 Bass - 3 GTR - 4 Keys - 5 Vocal - 6 Click - 7 TB - 8

I've got the Behringer Powerplay 16 monitor control system. It works great.
There is an obvious downside to letting the talent mix his/her own monitoring, though... For some people I only let them have the stereo mix. Saves my time and their money.

For some people I only let them have the stereo mix. Saves my time and their money. We do mixes for the band members on their monitor mixers and explain how everything works. We ask them to let us know if they "get into trouble" or simply, are not comfortable. Sometimes a musician will paint him or herself into a corner, but usually, they are fine. The ergonomics of the 16 channel Furman are pretty intuitive.
