Hey all... I've been redoing my home studio and it's really taking shape. I'm building a cool wall piece that will have hooks for extra mic and instrument cables and a patch cord holder. The wall piece is designed but I haven't found the right hooks yet. I want something cool / earthy / industrial looking, not your typical Home Depot closet hook. Would love to hear and see some cool ideas. Thanks!

Galvanized pipe has gotten expensive! You can blame Pinterest for that!

used analog tape reels to drape the cable over - mount several on a wall and visually you've got a cool thing going. Plus you can say it gives your recordings an analog vibe...

A tall stack of milk crates - arranged so the crates with the most used and essential cables (XLRs, guitar cords, etc.) placed safely and securely on the bottom and the "to be repaired" crate with the broken and defective cables placed accessibly on the top where you can score basketball points for your aim with the bad ones......

Happy New Year, everyone! I thought I would post a couple pictures to update you on how the studio turned out. A friend, who happens to be a fantastic woodworker, helped out by building me an amazing piece out of pallet wood to hang on the wall. We used some funky hangers that we found at Hobby Lobby. The new 14-space slant rack was built by Nice-Racks (www.nice-racks.com) in Cape Cod, MA. Currently, patch bay cables are hanging over an old pop filter clipped to the side of my desk. And, while two hangers at the bottom of my cable storage piece hold headphones, an amazing way to temporarily hold headphones at your workspace is by simply hanging them over a capo clamped to the edge of your desk. The Nice Racks stuff is amazingly gorgeous and well built/solid, I have my VU meter in a 2U one.

Agree it's expensive if you have to buy them. Ideally this works only if you have several reels laying around that aren't being used vs. having to buy.

We have our xlrs on a surplus mic stand with the boom parallel to the floor. Works pretty well.
