I'm looking to build frames for 4" 703 today.
Are the dimensions of 703 actually 2'x4'x4" or are they off by some amount the way most lumber is? I don't have the 703 yet to measure.
Also, 1"x4" lumber is actually only 3.5". That won't work if the 703 is 4" right?

I used this easy build, where instead of putting the 703 inside the frame you lay it ont top and then wrap over it.

Lowe's might have rock wool. It's cheaper, works better and it's less itchy..

Roxul cut into triangles and stacked in corners will be much much more efficient. I've never found 703, even the thick stuff to grab the deep stuff. Plus, you can do this w/o a frame, just something to hold them up and from falling down. Roxul really does a better job at trapping and it's easy to come by.

How about this stuff? www.atsacoustics.com/item--Roxul-Rockboard-60-Case-of-6--RB60.htmlI could double them up to get to 4". frank, these frames behind the panel seem like a great idea. svart, I need the rigid stuff to frame and hang on the wall right? jeromemason, my control room doesn't really have corners. The only 90 degree corners butts up against the rear diffusion wall, so I couldn't do a corner trap there. Also, looking at treating a smallish (5'x6' ish) vocal booth. Do I need to go 4" for a vocal booth or would 2" be sufficient there? Vocals aren't really pushing the booking lows, so 4" might be overkill? Do you guys have experience with diffusion? Any diffusers that I can build fairly easily other than those RPG skyline? Here's a pic of the previous studio with some diffusion rather than traps... i.imgur.com/EugrOQn.jpg

They get kinda rounded and lumpy. I also use the rigid panels for a lot of stuff like mobile panels I can position around amps and such, but I've come to prefer the soft rock wool's sound control for room acoustics. I'd rather use 4" of soft rockwool than 2" of rigid board on the walls. I built wood frames for mine: realgearonline.com/thread/5220/diy-wooden-framed-broadband-absorbers

If you're making a vocal booth that small I'd trap it good and seal it up tight. 2" on the walls is good, but try to get some kind of tuned absorption in there to control the mud. A lot of cats in town believe it or not use heavy rugs in those little rooms. It's dampens basically all frequencies, you just hang it from the ceiling and let the rug be limp. The only time you'd go minimal broadband absorption in a vocal room is if it's like an 8x10 or 8x12. I love the sound of those vocal booths, and the ones that are asymmetrical sound the best.
I wouldn't do the roxul board. Just go to Lowes and get the batting and put it in your 1x4 frames and cover, done.

I built mine on top of frames. I used 703 and 705. I also made corner traps using triangles of fluffy stuff. I have build pics around somewhere if you're interested. You can kinda see what I did here:
