Got one of these in house and its amazingly cool. Very silky, ultra low noise, deep bottom end. Active section is highly detailed. Passive is classic-tone, good sweetness and clarity. Pretty much does everything. I want to demo Scott's pre-amps now, this unit is built super high quality, sounds very transparent and "opaque" to me. Round and big. The bottom end is bigger than my other Active DI boxes. OLLA has tons of awesome features, sort of a one stop box for most people. Check it; puebloaudio.com/olla---hybrid-di-box.html |

Pueblo Audio is pleased to announce the release of our new OLLA-4 Hybrid DI unit. OLLA-4 provides the same features as our mono DI box but packages 4 channels in a 1U rack-mount chassis. Inputs are available on both front and rear panels for hassle free connections.   More recent news; earlier this summer our Japanese Distributor (Abendrot Audio) introduced our OLLA DI box to Christian McBride and his touring crew at the Blue Note, Tokyo. As many readers here will know, it can be challenging to accomplish sonic suitability in a DI for discerning acoustic bassists of Mr. McBride’s pedigree. So it is with pride that Pueblo learned he and his FOH mixer, Fela, continued their world tour now with OLLA along for the ride. Fela and her partner Denis also operate 23dB Productions. Thought I'd bump this instead of adding to the other DI thread. I picked one of these up from Scott this week. Adam's description is spot on. I love this as much as I love my ZOD which I didn't think would be possible, different beasts for sure but I'm loving what the OLLA brings to the table (and it fits on the pedalboard which was my requirement for an upcoming tour). Super quiet and captures the tone of my P-bass in this solid way that just sits so perfect. Also very nice with my Strat and to my great surprise with a client's acoustic guitar's pickup, which usually going DI is the most annoying sound ever. I'll be getting a few more when I can and now want to check out his preamps too.

Yeah, OLLA is awesome! I now have a pair. Pulls every ounce of tone from the instrument, especially when used active. ZOD is also awesome, harmonic sauce that can doubles as a preamp. I could get that sound from either, though to be fair the player and bass would have infinitely more influence on the sound. A very generic assessment in this particular tone hunt: OLLA would give you a wider palate of tone, ZOD would potentially get you there quicker. In this particular case I'd probably also try my Triad powered Wolfbox Dan Wiley made (formerly monkeyxx, now 'guitar' here on RGO).

Sounds like he decided a few months ago that he needed a break from online life and wanted to live with more intentional presence in the physical world. He said he's gotten engaged, actually. He said the whole thing has been really good for him. I'm happy for him, but I do miss his posts here. |

Vk shows a B stock OLLA I'm going to sound like an OLLA salesman but I turned a buddy on to them when I was helping him with some studio reconfiguring a few months back. I feel like I detailed that somewhere here on RGO but the gist was he got rid of his other DI's and got the 4ch rack OLLA (Avalon was one, some other passives I can't remember, tho I do think he kept the Highland Dynamics custom job as it's now unobtanium). I gotta say, his old p-bass with flats -> Ghost instrument cable -> OLLA active -> his vintage 1073 was a sound to behold. |
