Just recieved my GZ67 FET and it's a brilliant mic, no "zing", no fracturing under heavy singing / SPL and it takes brilliantly to EQ / compression. It's slightly dark but full bodied and smooth as silk.. No signs of a harsh top end even in the slightest and still retains enough clarity to go easy with EQ.
I wasn't overly fond of the MKID, but this one definatley has my vote.. Amazing what you can pick up for less than $1K nowadays.

I find them to be awesome mics too, just like you described.

Did you ever try the GZ251? Heheh. I did demo the GZ251Fet briefly. I frankly didn't get to use it that much. I knew it wasn't The One for my voice pretty quickly (no C12 or 251 mic is really 'right' on me, I'm too bright already) and I was in the middle of a remodel at the time. I used it a few times though and it had the same quality I've come to expect from 3U, particularly from the GZ line. Right on par with your GZ67Fet, just (obviously) in a very different circuit/voicing. One of these days I'm just gonna take the plunge and buy one of his tube mics. I bet they're fantastic.

Hey ragan - you know what my voice sounds like...which of these 3U condensers would you recommend? Hey John. That's a good question. Truth is, I've never really heard you sound off on anything. The 47, the Upton, the Samar, thinking of things you've posted, I just think you have a nice voice and it sounds pretty good on any decent mic. I know that's not really the type of answer any singer (myself included) is looking for though. If I were looking at 3U for a vocal mic, I'd just pick whichever sort of general tone style I liked and then try the GZ version of that. Are you pretty solid on the 251 style for your voice?

I bought a gz67fet some time back. I did not fall in love with it like i thought. Mind you it does the job but its not like some other 67ish mics i have. I also bought a Warbler MK1d and whilst it is in the same similar sound terriotory of my older 1970 U87 (which i should never have sold) i thought it was great value for money but a little lacking against the real deal. So yes you do pay for what you get.
