I've got a deal worked out for one and it should be coming next week. How do you guys like this box?

I'd like to try it again...but when I used it before, I thought it added a definitely midrangey ness to whatever went through it. Kind of some honky-ness. I've seen where others didn't think that at all though.

I haven't used one yet, but I could see ones "honkey" being anothers "vintage vibe".

I thought it was honky, too, in the various clips I heard. Very diff sounding that the other Retro offerings.

I have one. Usually finds it's way to bass or vox. I prefer it in single mode when mixing. I can HEAR it there in single mode. Double mode is very smooth. but I do often use it in the vocal tracking chain AFTER a couple other things. Lately it's been UTA pre/EQ into distressor/176/doublewide/retro 2A3. It's not the unit to use if you want very apparent, pumping compression but bass and vocals land in the mix like a brick in mud with this thing. I'm contemplating a second one for bus work. I don't hear "honky" but I have put it on and then taken it off and gone with something faster. It's a slower compressor FOR SURE. you are NOT gonna hear the vu tick tick ticking away. This thing is ALWAYS smooth and relaxed. Even at the fastest attack and release settings.

I have a pair. They usually end up on bass and vox here as well. And they do those things really well. For the most part I use them in double mode. Great sounding compressors. And they look good

Doublewide deal worked out. My amp tech has it in his hands. When I pick up my Mesa, I'll be grabbing a Doublewide too.

Picked this puppy up today. Got a live gig tonight, so hopefully I can get it fired up after the game tomorrow. Go Seattle!

Honkiness tends to be viewed in a negative light.

Just fired this up on a vocal and was fairly pleased with the results. Seemed to add a bit of bigness to the sound. On this particular track is smoked my Brute, but was second to the Schmidlin. Better than I expected so far with all honk talk going around.

I just bought one after renting one way too often. I have used them a bunch and don't hear the honkiness issue others talk about. I think maybe people are over using it or listening to it solo and not how it is working within the track. It can bring a vocals mids forward or not, that depends on how you are using it.
