I've seen discussions on here about their mods, but has anyone tried their preamps? They have a 1073 Neve style preamp, BA173, and an API style preamp, BA12. They also have a clean preamp called the Auteur. I was thinking about picking up the BA173, the price is right and it racks. I was curious if anyone has used it or compared it to other neve 1073 style preamps.

I'm sure it's good, but haven't heard or tried any of their preamps yet.

I've tried the Auteur. It was good, a very good deal actually. I wouldn't call it clean though. It has some character. My only complaint was that it felt cheap, this was the original mk1 version, not the half rack they make now. The new version looks to built a lot better. And in BLA's defense, they purposely cut corners on aesthetics's to be able offer gear at a lower price.
I did hear a shoot out on GS between their 312 clone and real 312. The real API had a much nicer harmonic distortion thing going on. This was on electric gtr.
Never heard the 173 they have but I'm sure it's good. If you can find a good deal on eBay I'd say get it, and report back. If you don't like it you can sell it and make your money back.

We have an Auteur at my home base studio, it seems decent enough. The other day I put it up on mono room mic with an R-101 and was surprised that there wasn't even close to enough gain. Mic was only like 4 feet back from the kit. Anyway it warrants more investigation on my part— DRS-1 was acting funny too so maybe I have a wiring issue.
