If yes dont waste years not seeing a psyichatrist to get a diagnose and maybe a low dosis methylphenidat. I did try everything for years therapy, sports, fish oil...what a waste of life time. Dont belive the horror stories in newspapers about Ritalin - they print big BS about it. Just try it its like a new live.

I agree but do keep in mind there are many who do have bad reactions to many medications, so seeing a professional and communicating any problems or issues is a must.

I should mention in Germany you cant buy Ritlain on the free market, you must see an MD. You are so right. DO NOT MEDICATE YOURSELF without the assistance of a specialist who knows how to algin the level Ritalin in your blood. Ritalin is not something to toy with!! Kids with an organic heart defect can die from it!!!

I have been dealing with it all my life since the age of 5. I truly hated being on medication. It removes the "Adam" inside me. No thanks. Now...Its a blessing to me. A beautiful curse. What truly makes my life complete is having "interests" that I am passionate about.

What truly makes my life complete is having "interests" that I am passionate about. Maybe it makes a difference if you are young or already an adult. The science discusses the pathological significance, ok no one is gonna die because of ADHD but if it makes a normal working day impossible. Or you start to drink to much to medicate it with alcohol because you know you it much lesser when you are drunk. In this case maybe someone is going to die - over their years. I just say, with our without medication. ADHD needs treatment, as sooner the better for the patient.

Absolutely. My dad has it...but he wont ever admit this...never tested...His father had it...I was certainly given this by them. They lived this way and let it define them without acknowledging it. Since I was diagnosed young, I have been learning how to live with it since then. Learning, how I learn.

I have an ADD additionally to bipolar disorder and general anxiety disorder. I take the off-label use Elontril/Wellbutrin/Zyban amphetamine-based antidepressant (chemical name "Bupropion"). It works as anti-ADD medication due to it's stimulant-like qualities in the neurotransmitter metabolisms. It is the 3rd most used medication after Methylphenidate (Ritalin) and Dexamphetamine AFAIK. It is the only one of these, that is not under the BTMG law in Germany (which rates drugs that are considered usable for substance abuse). Actually, the ADD was buried under the other disorders, and the paradox and helpful effect when i changed antidepressant to Buproprion (different perception, more concentration etc...) made clear that i have ADD also... (So - it should never get boring for me... LOL) I can highly recommend seeing a doctor, and very preferably a psychiatrist, if you have ANY symptoms of a psychiatric illness or personality disorder. And i highly encourage everyone to listen to your environment when they tell you that you have a problem... (Often enough they can see your problems better than you. Especially if you are already used to them your whole adult life or longer...) It can change your life to the better. Substantially.

BTW, i would not say that *nobody* is going to die because of ADHD. Think of car accidents and several other types of mishaps that can get quite dangerous. People with ADHD have considerably higher chance of beeing involved into this type of stuff. It might be not as obvious as maybe for people with bipolar disorder, but ADHD can also cause serious affect disorders, concentration problems, depression, substance abuse as a type of self-medication etc.... So treatment is always a good idea. And to be honest - coping with these kind of disorders to a manageable degree, that have a point of no return and can only be treated, not healed after this point, is in most cases near impossible without medication. So do yourself a favour and don't try to get away with things like "alternative" medicine, meditation or any obscure therapies. Biologically anchored disorders like ADHD, ADD, bipolar disorders, depression, shizophrenia, shizoaffective disorders etc. in most but the very mildest forms can only be treated sufficiently with meds involved. As the minimum basis for everything else, like psychotherapy or any other behavioral technics - which are mostly optional... (You can not essentially change these kind of disorders by any "better thinking", "positive thinking", esoteric methods, meditation etc.. Although, you can always do this additionally, if you feel better with it.......)

Altough it is a pretty funny video, it is also quite accurate to get an idea if you have a problem in this area. It might seem exaggerated. But if it is not really for YOU, well.... . Just to be taken as an easy entrance to the matter if you think you could possibly suffer from ADD/ADHD. Look, a squirrel!!!

Would be interesting how many points were possible up to this point, if you come back to the test 2 weeks later and the browser tab is still open, if you got distracted by a squirrel, or if you started the test with the impression that it could be possibly conclusive enough to justify speaking to a doctor about this matter? Or the opposite? No easy answers, as always. 65 half way thru? Not too shabby..... ;-)

Lost track of my score pretty quickly but got most of them right, plus I got the squirrel. I did watch it all the way through in one sitting though, only scrolling up and down the page a few times to read other posts, so I should probably have points deducted for that.
It was fun and educational. And a lot of his questions scored a bulls-eye.

AD(H)D is not easy to diagnose in adult age. Probably the most interesting question is if someone was like this as a child already. And this might also be one of the most difficult to answer. Asking family members that knew you as a child can give some great hints. In my case, my brother could tell me stories i would have never remembered that can be easily associated with ADD. There are some affective disorders that can look like ADHD, so seeing a specialist for affective disorders and in the best case for ADD in adult age might be mandatory. In my case, the ADD was also masked by my bipolar disorder, that had stronger influence on my affective states of mind ...
