One wont do it, everything has to be pairs for me. My current problem is I have 1 Upton 251. That is a problem. Get both if DrBill lets them go.

Yeah, I have to do pairs too. It's a curse. But I feel bad about hijacking this thread. Actually, I think someone pushed me into it. Back to the LC25/40 vs. BT50 conundrum for nomatic Which way did you decide to go?

I want to know more about the LC 40 vs the bt50 for male Vox and other subgroups. Mainly the sound characteristics and usage. I saw roundbadge had a nice brief description above, would any other users like to chime in or the builder/ manufacturer 😀?

Hey y'all, I'm a drummer/producer in the Los Angeles area. I'm looking for an eq to track my drums with. Mainly for kick, but it would be awesome for it to crossover into vox, keys, etc. Im a fan of Russell Elevado and the sounds he gets. Of course, I don't have $$$ and I'm not him. But I haven't been able to find an eq that doesn't sound grating to my ears in the high end region. Not here to get technical with anyone about anything except sound. I found this video yesterday...
I think the eq sounds great. I'm not sure of the op amp selection though?
For the record, I like music that sounds this way. Of course, I like other things. But from a drum standpoint. I'm in this mindset.

I would actually suggest the CAPI LC25. Has a 50 Hz and 100 Hz as opposed to the 80 Hz. Then I like the top better for vox too. 12.8, 6.4, 3.2, 1.6 kHz...

If you want pretty even across the board, I would say GAR 1731. More saturation and vintage vibe, Liebers Red Dot. More clean with punch and clarity, Liebers 1731.

I agree with John about the LC25 being the best option for what you want. I'd give the Rogue 5 opamp's a shot if you want punchy and open. $19 ea.

Lastly, does anyone know of capable soldering experts in the Los Angeles area? I have no desire to try my hand at soldering.

Bump drbill what did you decide? I'm expanding my racks in 2019 looking very hard at all of the CAPI gear

Bump drbill what did you decide? I'm expanding my racks in 2019 looking very hard at all of the CAPI gear I didn't decide anything. But they don't get used too much - and they fill holes in my 500 rack. Right beside the Trident 80B EQ's which don't get used that much either - although they are cool in that 80's kinda way. LOL If I didn't need to recall them, I'd use em more. The Tridents are a pita to recall for me. Cool on elec gtrs. PM me an offer I can't refuse on either / both? I'd only sell in pairs though. Right now, when EQing in the analog world, in my world, the MIAD's are king, and then the API 550A1's and then the Eisen LilPEQr's and lastly the LC25 (wish I had 2). These are the EQ's that get used the most.

I have a feeling that I will be relying on 2-3 types of EQ's when I get set up as well. Some of the Cake albums I admire were recorded by kirt shearer on a Trident 80b.... with a lot of 1176 compressors... and a 251... great sound I wish I could just put my 500 series gear into a cage fight and some of them gets killed. Then I would introduce new challengers.

EQ’s in CAPILAND! I have held off for a long time because of all the opamps and transformer options and reading/researching what I would like. I’m meticulous as well. The curiosity of swapping out different opamps is very interesting. I’m green when it comes to building kits, but I feel I have to start at some point.
Silver solder? Does it really matter? What solder are you using?

What solder are you using? Honestly, in my opinion, your technique will matter more. That will take time and practice. Get a spool of Kester 60/40 or 63/37 and get cracking. Don’t get analysis paralysis. It’s all subtle shades of awesome.

Silver solder? Does it really matter? What solder are you using? My personal preference is "Kester 44 63/37"(SN63PB37.. .031") I have been using this stuff for decades. I have never found better and I have tried everything. When you buy my assembled gar DOAs from CAPI, that is what was used. Best Gary
