Brilliant! Great post jazznoise, thanks.
Now, if I can only learn how monkeyxx gets that little video as his icon, it'll be a perfect day ;-)
I'm still curious where and how you guys like to use the 1176, and if you prefer the Sta-Level mainly as a vocal compressor, or as a 2 bus compressor, or both. The Slate VBC is holding up pretty well. I still have a long way to go to really wrap my head sound using all three together, but so far, it's remaining a go to compressor in my mixes. If a plug isn't really that great, it eventually gets lost in the depths of my hard drive, rarely to be seen again. I haven't used the UAD Massive Passive or any of the Waves producer presets once yet in a final mix, as an example.

I love the 1176. Vocals, Kick, Snare, El. Guitars, Bass. Can work well on all of these sources. I like to run the 1176 ahead of an La-2a to catch the peaks first, then smooth. Never use a Sta, but I understand it to be similar in style/vibe to an LA-2a. I don't think it's the type of thing that I would strap across my 2 buss, but maybe I'm off base.

I'm looking forward to trying out the WA76 when it's released, thanks jcoutu.

I would just say that modeled plugs are a good way to get an idea of what the hardware is like, "ooh I like that" maybe I should go after the hardware. Heck I think even the Sta Level got modeled sometime not too far ago, but I don't recall by whom. Of course that doesn't help with less mainstream boxes.. PSP modeled the Gates with The Old Timer. It's a good software comp but in my experience, the only software that I've used that comes close to what the Sta does is the UAD LA2. And it comes real close IMO. Those new models from UAD are amazing really.

Gotta agree with cowboy her, the UAD LA2 plug just works beautifully. Once I heard it, I rarely look elsewhere.
