I'm trying to find a plugin that will apply synth type EFX to audio. Everything I'm finding is VI's, but nothing that just applies it over the audio source.
Anyone know of a good one? I'd even look into a rack outboard unit if there is something out there that is somewhat cheap and simple. Staying ITB is ideal though.

Could you just mult the signal to two channels and have one "effect" channel and one clean channel and just use the faders to adjust the blend?

Cytomic The Drop is a great filter plugin or one of the Eventide plugins may be what you're after for filtered pitch effects, turning input into an oscillator-like source. Also u-he Zebrify.

Serum includes Serum FX as a separate effects VST, so you can apply its filters, distortion, etc to other sources.

The MS-20 plugin comes with a version for external audio, it's pretty cool. But as said, what are synth effects? Granular delays? Filter FM?

Cubase can turn a monophonic track into MIDI notes, which you can then synthesize with an instruement, but I am not sure if that's what you are talking about.

I remember seeing a plugin that took actual sounds recorded and changed the sound so much that it could be manipulated into about anything you want. Cant remember the name of the plugin, It wasn't cheap. You could blend to taste an instrument or vocal to any sound like a keyboard or synth...can't remember...argh!!! Protools expert had a demo video of it...maybe you could search there.

Turn it upside down, inside out or into outer space..... You can take it so far it's completely unintellibible from the original file.

Yes, Omnisphere, however there is a plugin and it retails for around $400 that does this also, but not as extreme as omnisphere. I love the spectrasonics stuff
