Anyone here ever built a Hairball Lola?
Also, wondering what the consensus is on how a Lola would sound with Louder Than Liftoff's Rogue 5 DOA's installed?

I've built a couple of them --- great pre and great DI. I used the diy 990s in mine. They take probably 3 times as long to build as a CAPI pre because of the large number of parts. The sound is big and detailed without the sterility associated with a lot of clean pres. Lots of samples on hairball site.
Lots of love on RGO for the Lola.....

As I see that Capi will allegedly have their input transformers in stock tomorrow, I'm also contemplating building a VP26 with a Rogue 5 DOA inside first.

Can't go wrong with that -- but maybe consider a VP25 if you might use it for bass or kick. The 25 and 26 are hard to tell apart other than the larger bottom end on the VP25 (same exact circuit other than the larger output transformer). For my needs, I like to have a buncha CAPI, and at least a pair of neves and lolas. I'm sure the rogue 5 is great -- I need to pick up some of those.

Hey Mdmitch2, How quiet are the VP26's? And in that regard, are the Lola's quieter?

I'm pretty picky about noise, and I've never noticed any from either of them. You'd be maxing out the gain before you got any appreciable noise, and even then, I think it would be hard to detect over the noise coming from your mic / room.

Just finished a pair of 26's with rogue 5's ; sound great, and hey for the same price as a gar2520 unassembled it's a steal!

Been dying to try the Rogue 5 in something. What was the build time on the VP26?

Been dying to try the Rogue 5 in something. What was the build time on the VP26? Tough call on build time, I honestly built these 2 in less than 3 hours, but that's because I've built 20+ capi modules at this point for other's and i'm used to building 28's & bt50's, so the 26's & 312's feel like a quick walk in the park compartively, especially if you have BOM sheet's all ready and tidy! Either way it's a real easy build shouldn't take more than a couple hours if it's your 1st go around- just follow the pictorial build guide & make sure you pay attention to the little tricks; like when you install the potentiometer's/gain/fader switches- etc.

Thanks Bender! I'm happy to take my time and enjoy it. I'll keep an eye out for those little tricks for sure.

Yeah. I've been checking all day. Ordered my Litz, stepped VP26 just a few minutes ago! Woohoo! And with the $5 coupon I had from DIYRE, the Rogue 5, with shipping was $16 and change.

I built a Lola with GAR918s. Sounds great. No complaints! Another one soon.
The Lola is a more complex build than the CAPI VP312, 25, 26, 28 for sure.
GAR918 sounds great in my CAPI preamps too. Options!
Please and THANK YOU! -Pfhuck

I built a Five Fish Audio NK-72DI, and with the GAR918BC op amp, I think it's going to be very similar to the Lola, and worth comparing. The main functional difference is no output trim on the NK-72DI.
Also, Carnhill transformers vs. Ed Anderson, but both are modeled for the same Neve-ish purposes.
Take a look at the Five Fish kit if you are considering the Lola. I'd like to try both, eventually. The prices are comparable. The Five Fish kit is a little simpler in terms of number of components, but the main components are comparable.
The sound I'm getting is very smooth, full, but with a nice sheen on top. I haven't completely fit it into my workflow, but then again I've just built it, so I'm still learning it. The bass DI sound was immediately gratifying with a P bass. Acoustic guitars are also sounding pretty good. Need to test drums and amps.

Also, the Rogue 5 op amps are sounding pretty darn good in my VP312. Think I will leave them in for the moment.
