Oh stupid me.
I know you can kill an fire wire interface by unplugging it from the computer bus power without switching it off. In a hurry, new studio setup, I unplugged the FF cable without switching it off and BOING the FF 400 cant recognize the computer anymore. I am sure I killed the unit with it.
Anyway now I am searching for bridge until the unit is back.
I do not want to put a lot of money into it maybe something like 4 in 4 outs.
Any suggestions.

Try a complete Power reset on the unit and call RME tech support?

I recently did the exact same thing to my FF 400. It was serving as supplemental IO for my MOTU 16a connected via ADAT. If you are doing the same thing, how about a Behringer 8200? Also, if I read your post correctly, it sounds like you are getting your FF 400 repaired? If so, by who, and for how much?

As I am located in Germany its easy I sent it to Synthax Audio they do the service for Germany. I am pretty sure they have Service for the US. Just write to Daniel Fuchs: support@rme-audio.de He is one of the most friendly support people which I met in my life.

Try a complete Power reset on the unit and call RME tech support? Did try that tag hot plugging most often kills the fire wire bus. It a big mistake in the fire wire construction as far RME told me. Lesson learned. Always switch off the unit first.
