I have a pair of the sE X1 mic . Used them for overheads and voice . They were $160 each brand new . Thats like crazy cheap ! They sound good . Smooth top and for the price I think they are amazing . They do have a little bit of a ringing , I think in the 1K area ?? Not sure where , but I hear something ringing around there . Nothing some EQ can't fix .
For the money they are awesome , but they don't sound as good as like a Shure KSM32 , which I upgraded to for overheads . But if you were broke they are a really good mic and you can make really decent recordings with them .
I think sE makes the best value mics around . From what I've heard from other people is that theres not a bad sE mic . You always get more than what you pay for . Their goal is to be the next Neumann .

I picked up a 3300a in a trade a few years back. Pretty decent, well built multi pattern LC. I've gotten some nice vocal takes with it. Worked well with acoustic guitar & cello also. No experience with any of their other mics. I've been intrigued in the Neve designed RN17 SD and RN1 Ribbon for some time.

Has anyone taken them up on their free trial?

Almost without exception, cheap microphones sound over-priced to me.
