I recently ripped apart my first real project. I was having some noise issues. It was a Five Fish SC-1 4 channel rack kit. Once I got it exposed, I realized how far I have come with soldering and wire dressing. I am actually not sure how some of the pres were functioning.
What are your first projects, and would you be proud of opening them today?

My initial stuff was just wiring in guitar pickups around 17 years ago. Wow, what a mess. Apparently, more solder was better. I still occasionally find remnants from that era when I go to do something in one of my guitars. By the time I started building gear, I had made dozens of cables, fixed a lot of gear, and generally knew my way around a soldering iron so my first builds were very clean.
I've got to say though, I'm really surprised at the crude soldering work in some high end gear I come across. In fact, I'm currently fixing a pair of $5k mics for a client and the work inside is uninspiring to say the least. And, it's a brand everyone knows as being among the best of the best.

I fixed a first gen 5 disc CD changer bank in the early 90s. I traded a skateboard for it.
I found a burned resistor, but at the time I had no idea what it was. All I know was that I had another board with those parts, and stole my dad's soldering iron to try to swap the burned one with a good one. I didn't even know what the stripes meant at the time. I just found one with similar colors to those next to the burned one.
Somehow I got the new one in and soldered, and the unit started working.
Been hooked repairing electronics since.

Oh i built and melted a five fish x-12 for my first project. Its a pretty easy build and i was super happy when it finally worked. It still runs nice but i have since turned it into a 500 series unit and then back again to being racked. Its actually a bad ass preamp. I am more proud of my 4 channel mitsos 312 as i had to source the parts and figure it out. My capi vp26 went together fast. My second build which i still have living on my drum bus is the gssl. Boy was i proud of myself. I eventually stuck the turbo mod in it and would go on to build another more 'refind' gssl also with turbo. That lives on the stereo buss both with the lightest of settings. And how the list grew.

I forgot to take some good before pics. I had been pretty proud of that build. I believe I was still using a Ratshack pencil iron that I snagged from my dad. There were questionable bulbous solder joints, mostly on the grounds of caps. I reflowed all my joints and added in molex connectors on the power jumpers.
It's amazing what better tools will do, and I also take the time to clean the flux off my boards.
