All units in my mobile racks have XLRs that I patch into in the back of the racks. I didn't want to have to make different cords to patch into the SA4000.

This has been on the back burner for me as I've been really busy - but I'm on the same page as you. Stam just announced the 2.0 version with XLr's so Im trying to snag a board from him. If not I'll punch the holes like you and just wire it up.

After buying the enclosure, meter, knobs, etc - probably the same price as I got for the Stam unit. I can punch the holes in the case I have and wire up the XLR's in about an hour. A full build would take more time + calibrating etc. We've got the real deal at the studio, and for my home/travel rig, when I saw the Stam unit, it was sort of a no brainer. It was supposed to come with xlr's, not really sure what happened there. But it's an easy enough fix I guess...

I'd rather have serpent gear over stam. Mike really is the best when it comes to designing clones
