Hello Everyone,
www.facebook.com/stamaudio/p...ype=3&theater]
I wanted to share with you the specs and a picture of the new Stam Audio SA-2A. I developed these upgrades per request of producer Greg Wells and I am so thrilled with the results that I decided to make it available for everyone. I will be making one small batch of them a year and it has several upgrades from the previous version.
I sent Greg both SA-2A's and his response was: "The new one has way more vibe than the other unit. More of that gloopy gushy magic tube compression thing. I put it on a lead vocal in a mix and loved it. The other unit sounded fine but didn't have the same bigger deeper sound"
From a technical point of view the new unit with the Sowter input transformer has a better frequency response and distortion measurement and it is closer to the UTC A/10 in terms of turnos ratio, it has 4dB more voltage gain and it behaves more like an original LA-2A. Although the sound quality of both is great there is a measurable improvement, particularly in the high end area.
Some measurements:
Amplifier gain at 1 kHz:
With both Cinemag transformers: 27.64 dB
With Sowter input and Cinemag: 31.6 dB
Distortion at +17.75 dBm input
With Cinemag input: 0,5480%
With Sowter input: 0,1630%
Upgrades:
Sowter A10 replica input transformer .
Carbon resistors in audio path
4th generation Kenettek T4B , which according to Bill it now comes even closer to the original UREI.
We have managed to keep the price the same, with all the upgrades.
890.00 pre-order
990.00 stock price
Sowter output transformer is optional for an extra 100.00
For all of you who have the previous SA-2A I will upload a documment to our website with everything that is needed to upgrade your units, it is only 2 or 3 parts and not that expensive, I will also have a tech ready in Canada, the US and in Europe that can perform your upgrades for a fixed price.
I know many users here that are extremely happy with their units and would not touch them, if this is the case then I recommend leaving them as they are, it is all about what works for you in the end.
Thank you
Joshua,
