Looks like they will show their 500 Series preamp and eq at NAMM with the compressor soon to follow. I know the compressor is well liked but can anyone speak to the preamp's character? Thanks.

The SS preamps are VERY fast and punchy. We have 2 channel strips (IM6)and they EQ's are phenomenal. One of the only EQ's I've used where you can boost 10db on the bottom without things sounding weird.
500 series could be really cool!

Those dual concentric knobs look nice. Can you elaborate on the mic and line labels? There appears to be some sort of dual functionality there.

I talked to the man himself at Namm today. The preamp is going to be around 1k and the eq will be 550. BUT... he said the eq will only work with the preamp and not independently. They do look and feel great.

Yikes, 1K for the 500 series pre?
Lots of GREAT options that destroy that price point. This thing must be pretty badass...

Is this a different company using the SpectraSonics name?

Spectra Sonics (2 words) vs Spectrasonics (1 word) might be enough to distinguish a difference, legally.

Right.
So, Spectra Sonics, from Ogden, UT - make the badass hardware gear.
Spectrasonics makes software instruments.
Is this the Ogden company, or a different one altogether?

What an interesting distinct ion.
So $1500 usd per single pre and eq ?
Anybody got info on the eq ?

how the F did they get away with their company name??? How did they not get sued by Eric Persing for trademark rights??! I was always confused about how Eric got away with using the name of a hardware and console manufacturer/company from the 60's... I mean, I understand the lack of a space in between the words, but - really?

Re: Price - when designing the Chroma, Brad and I checked prices on ALL the 500 mic pre's out there. $1000 is on the upper end, no doubt, but it's not the most expensive out there. There are a lot in the 800+ range. Really, I'd say most of the decent ones are up in that range. We priced Chroma to destroy. LOL
Wishing Spectrasonics all the best. Cool looking retro. <thumbsup>
I'm curious - what's up with the dual trims for mic/line when there's only one input on 500 racks? I don't get the point. On a console, I completely understand, but not getting it on the 500 series.

Pair of those look like they'd be cool for the 2-buss. Too bad they don't work standalone. Guess I'm out on this company. Preamps are too rich for me.
