It's that time where AVID try's to convince us they really do care what we want to see them prioritize again. Well let's all tell them in the write in how most of us work in a hybrid world by writing in : Open EUCON to third party Hardware and control surfaces!

I'd really like to see them stop screwing over HD Native users with the lame I/O count limitations.

I cast my vote last year by going with StudioOne instead.

All three of the above! I sold my artist mix when i switched to Studio One as it was finicky as all hell. I still use PT10 but i use Studio One more now (it took a bit) but i really liked the artist mix but with no eucon support it was just too much of a pita. Sometimes it worked pretty well, other times it just dropped from existence. A couple of reboots and it was back on again. Not worth the trouble honestly.

Guys, go HDX. It's not expensive now, and the power is amazing. Just went HDX2, and it's like driving a race car to work every day. FUN!

drbill or any other Avid PT hdx users... How much are we talking to go to hdx... I'm on vanilla PT 10 & 12... 1)You need an Avid hdx card, 2) pcie enclosure for card if you don't have a Mac tower 3) You need avid hd interface ( not sure how an hdx card would interface with my Apollo ) 4) PT HD SW license $1500 ( this may be included in an interface purchase or hdx card ) The SW alone is $1500 since they " unlocked " it... With the HD software only ( kinda like CPTK ) I still believe one is stuck at 32 i/o...

New :
HDX - 2500 16X16 - 2000
I always use Avid/Digi interfaces if they are good. And the 16X16 is excellent. Less hassle IMO, and they always seem to work perfectly. Even the old Digi 192's work perfect with HDX.
Just my $.02

That leaves me with an Apollo sending to hd I/o via adat... idk pretty expensive investment, not too mention the bloated PT HD SW renewal costs every year to keep current and access bug fixes. I have wanted to go hdx for awhile however I have other needs first like a new Mac Pro, more room tx, Barefoot ( monitor upgrade ) renew and upgrade all plugins to go to 64 bit ( I have been procrastinating with this 🤣😱 )

Well, if you're going to keep the apollo, then get an old Digi 192 Digital to transfer over to. You can get em for $200-300.

HDX into your computer's PCIe slot. Proprietary AVID cable from HDX card to 192. Apollo (or other) via ADAT into the 192.

HDX into your computer's PCIe slot. Proprietary AVID cable from HDX card to 192. Apollo (or other) via ADAT into the 192. I don't have a pcie slot, so a new Mac Pro or tower would have to be factored into the purchase... I keep seeing $2999 for the hdx card only, $4500 for hdx card and SW license... obviously b stock or used would be my best bet in saving $, idk how avid is with transferring licenses etc... thanks for your help!

Those prices are high. If you want, I can put you in touch with the guy I use. Super helpful in getting you into what you need with whatever upgrades you have in the cheapest and simplest way. His prices are WAY below sweet water, VK, etc. You can get a magma chassis or thunderbolt chassis for the PCIe card. I've got no experience in that, but I've heard they work well. I'm using the oldest, fastest old school tower that apple made. Works awesome.
