Big difference between the hardware and software. The hardware compressor action was smoother and more consistent. But Greg's LA2A has been modded so it might have a smoother action than the LA2A that UA modeled. The harmonics and distortions sound really good from the UA plugs imo.

They're collectively getting closer but this all reminds me of "tube modelling" guitar amplifiers in the 80s and 90s...even today. They come close but theres nothing like the real thing.

As long as I can't afford a vintage LA-2A, I'm happy with my UAD plugs. They do what they're supposed to do and have a certain vibe that helps the music. Sure, I'd love to try the real thing, but I doubt that people would like my stuff more if I used a hardware LA-2A instead of a plugin.
