Does anyone have/use a Receptor? I have an early version for MIDI use with a keyboard, but I am wondering how it would work as an outboard effects box? Reverbs, compressors, etc? I haven't spent a lot of time with it, so I am not sure of all of it's capabilities. It would also be great if it could be used for running such things as Slate Drums. I do recall that whatever plugins are used have to be "receptorized" versions. Any thoughts?

Yes, they have to be "Receptorized". I wouldn't think it would be that useful for FX, honestly--it's generally WAY underpowered CPU compared to whatever PC you might be able to build at the time. And as someone who still uses hardware FX...not all apps handle the external compensation correctly, not to mention that not all plug FX ARE actually real time--so, you're introducing yet another buffer of latency for something to track and compensate for. If it's simply because you're running out of juice, it would be FAR cheaper and more simple and effective to buy more juice.
The main use I see for those is simply to run virtual instruments...they take very SPECIFIC resources...and are sampled generally at 44.1...thus, it's easier to just run a second box (Receptor OR PC) at 44.1 and connect analog IO to the double rate sessions. And, obviously for live use of the same instruments. There are a million good reasons for virtual instruments to live in a box that is NOT the DAW. I do that via the Kronos after many years of a running a Windows box just to house virtual instruments (and technically I also sequenced MIDI some with it where needed)....
I think if you use a ton of virtual instruments that you DON'T need to directly interface with...it's a solid way to offload them. Or was...I haven't seen the status on what's been kept "receptorized" as it got newer versions. But, for FX? Software FX actually still don't beat hardware in most cases--which is CHEAP on the used market. You'd be better off with old professional hardware reverbs and delays and such--even get some old vibey ones...than a second box for real time type FX processing with software algorithms. Not with the asking price for KSP8s and PCM series units as everyone moves ITB.

All good points to ponder, thanks. I just figure that I already have the box so, if there are any half-way decent effect type plugs, it might be worth looking into. I purchased it with Native Intruments Komplete6 already installed.

Sorry...yeah, I missed that point--already owning it--use it. If you need help setting up the external FX let me know. I know NI has some Lexicon emulations--I've never tried them, but you might already own them in Komplete. Obvious starting point.

Thanks for the offer to help. Not sure when I'll actually get to look into this. It's just one more thing that has crossed my mind.
